If they don't use Tom, who would want to see it?? It sure wouldn't be on my 'must see' list! Wonder who they would get for Lois Lane?? ED would sure be great - too much to hope for?

I would love to see Tom in that role ...but I wonder what his thoughts on it are. Maybe he'd like to do something totally different from Clark/Superman for his next film, but maybe not...and then there's his job on Smallville, playing a part in all this...

I'm curious to see who else they hire, for the other JLA characters. Would there even be a Lois Lane in that movie?

You know, more recent information seems to indicate that Tom is indeed close to closing this deal, despite recent denials of his publicist and more from Al Gough.

I think he would want to do it because it's a huge film. It'll be the biggest budgetted film he's been in yet, if he lands the role. And it's not just a small part, like in the Cheaper films or a lead in very small film like the Fog: it's a lead role in a film that will be budgeted at around $150 million dollars.

It'll be a major summer blockbuster type of film.

If he can carry a film like that, no matter what the "type casting" danger he might face, then his path toward getting a real movie career post Smallville will be made a heck of a lot easier.

It's a good move on his part, if he gets it and Smallville can work out the details with the schedule conflicts.

I'm all for it.

The comic stories that this film is rumored to be based on is very Superman heavy. He won't be the only lead, it is an ensemble movie after all, but it's still a great role and he looks the part now more than ever.

I hope he gets this part. It'll help set up a future career in films.

As for the other parts, they are rumors about Laurence Fishburn for Martian Manhunter and Ryan Reynolds for Flash (Barry Allen)... I haven't heard any other names so far and I'm not sure Lois is in this, I know Lex isn't supposed to be.

He played a very small part in the OMAC storylines in the comics.

The characters they've talked about are the main JLA members: martian manhunter, batman, wonder woman, Green Lantern (Jon, not Hal - I have no idea what the difference is, to be honset), Flash, Aquaman and Superman.

I hope Tom gets the part, I really do.

Sure wish we all had a vote! Do you think he has had to audition for it? I can't imagine why they would require him to but you never know. Is it Warner Brothers doing it?

Yeah, it's a WB picture. They own DC Comics, so all DC movies are theirs.

I don't think with the circumstances that Tom would need to audition. The director could find out all he needs to know by popping a Smallville DVD into his player.

George Miller, by some recent rumors, LOVES Tom. He's supposedly the director of the JLA film and tom is close to signing by some posters over on Counting Down's forums on the movie.

It's not just IESB that has reported the rumors, now Moviehole.net has it and this chick over on CD...

So, I'm not sure how certain that makes it but there's more buzz about this than there ever was for Tom playing Superman in the Singer film.

I think it's too soon to get your hopes totally up, but I'm cautiously optimistic. That's why I haven't posted about his publicist's denials and the other reports of Gough's statements on tw.org, unlike some other sites I could name. I think IESB, Moviehole and that chick on countingdown all seem so certain... I think it's looking good for Tom to get the part. I'm even more certain than when I posted the first news of it a week ago.

It's really great to hear more positive rumblings about Tom possibly getting the role...landing that one would be a huge boost for his career. I'm sure he'd be excited to be part of such a huge film!

Well, actually more talk indicates that George Miller in fact doesn't like Tom Welling and that they want an older cast.

This from that poster over on CountingDown.com's forums who had said the pen was in Tom's hands he was so close to signing...
