So SV started filming today Hope Tom got lots of rest during his hiatus

An interesting little tidbit. Again this is speculation at this point and there is tiny casting spoiler about an actor appearing in s9: So now it's possible Smallville's upcoming ninth season may not be its last? | SCI FI Wire

Wow, back to filming SV again...kinda hard to believe, since we have to wait until the fall to start seeing the new episodes. Hopefully it's all off to a good start.

Thanks for the link. I read that a few days ago but forgot to comment.
At this point, I'm ready for it to go either way...whether SV goes for 9 or for 10 seasons.
I don't think it should go beyond 10, though...to be honest, I didn't think it would still be around, this many years later.

^^^ It's funny because my sister couldn't believe it when I told her that SV had been going for 8 seasons. It just shows how incredibly well the show has done.

Yes...it wasn't due to lack of quality that I thought it wouldn't still be around...I just figured they'd wrap up Clark's story earlier.
It's been very interesting to see all the additional storylines they've added into the mix over the years. At least it hasn't been a rushed process.

Szilivia! Beat me to it I am beyond thrilled to see the words "co executive producer" in front of Tom's name. It is a well deserved effort of his hard work and dedication to the show.

Aww, Lia. Thanks for running over here with the news. Isn't it just the greatest thing to find out? It certainly made my evening.

Tom definitely deserves the executive producer credit. He's put so much into the show already, and I can't wait to see how he influences next season.

Sure. I was sooo shocked and thrilled when I saw it. In a way, I am glad I am not going because I would probably die And that would be bad.

I was really hoping with Swimmer and Slavkin's absence this year that the show would finally give him a producing credit. Glad to see it (was no doubt) a term of his new contract. An co-executive producer means he is now pretty much on Kelly and Brian's level and thus will have more power to help ensure the quality of Clark's story and the show in itself.

I'd have to agree, seeing Tom in person like that would be almost too much to handle. I've never fainted in my life, but that might be one time where I could see it happening.

So glad they offered him the contract that they did. I'm so excited to see how the show will develop with Tom having a major hand in the storyline developments, etc.

Oh I would definitely faint. I know that for a fact. Hearing his name being announced would be enough to trigger shaky breathing and heart thumping.

Definitely. It gives me a bit more hope because under Kelly and Brian's hand, the second half of s8 really faltered and wasn't put to par as the first half was.

Me thinks all the questions will be directed to Tom now since this is the first time he's ever appeared or done publicity for the show since s6.

Someone would have to revive you, ASAP, so you wouldn't miss a single minute of the SV panel's presentation.

Tom will certainly be able to 'flex his creative muscle' more next season. I bet he's looking forward to the challenge.

Indeed, he's sure to have plenty of questions come his way. His first time at Comic-Con, in addition to it having been so long since he's done an interview at a promotional event, he's got some catching up to do. I'm sure he'll handle it all with his usual professionalism, humility, and good humour.

Tom was the last one to be announced and he got a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd. And from various twitters, he was amazed by the crowd and asked how many people were there. The answer? 6,000!

Some spoiler free info from the ongoing panel. Source Natalie Abrams from E!:

Quote:

* Tom says he's taking a bigger part in production this season.

* Tom Welling will be directing two episodes this season.

* Tom Welling almost wasn't on Smallville. They weren't showing the script at first, so he says it took a while for him to be convinced to audition. As soon as he saw the script, sans cape and tights, he was all for it. He's happy that
he went through with it.

* Allison says Tom is her favorite director. He's very supportive and gets very excited on set.

* They do have a series finale planned if season nine is the last, but that can change if they are picked up. Brian says they're not worried about "stalling."

* What does Tom hope to accomplish tihs season? "I hope to close the gap between production and on set shooting." He wants to increase communication.

* Tom says he really enjoys the visual effects and stunts on the show. He also mentioned directing too. (the question was what did Tom enjoy doing the most over the years -- source House of El recap.
From Newsarama:
Quote:
* Question to Welling: "What inspired you to finally step in and audition?" Welling says that at first they weren't letting people who were auditioning see the script. "Sometimes in Hollywood, when they don't have a script to show people, it means they probably don't have one, which isn't a good thing," he continues. "At first, I thought it was going to be Superman in a cape and tights in television, and once I read the script, it was completely different than what I thought...something that hadn't been done before, and a lot of room to grow. It looks like that was a pretty good assessment."

* Welling answers, "the professional side of my life for the last few years have probably brought more to the table than my personal life." Loeb pointed out that Welling will be directing this year, which Welling confirmed. Two episodes. "I enjoy boyh sides very much," Welling says. "Tom is one of my favorite directors," Mack says, saying that he has "such a love" for the show and the characters.

* Moving to the directing side has been very exciting for him.

* Brian says they have plently of stories to tell for a possible s10 too.
