The very awesome Matt M at TV Guide has Part one of Your Burning Questions answered by Brian P and Kelly S, the remaining producers. I am bringing over the non spoilish questions.

Quote:

Clark can fly but simply hasn't finalized it yet, in my opinion. When will we see him mastering this ability? — Tombstone25

Kelly Souders: Clark Kent won't really become Superman until he takes to the skies. We all have our stumbling blocks; his are just air-born. Until he can fully embrace his double-life, he'll have a hard time getting off the ground. But, we will say, his "leaps" are getting closer and closer to the real thing.

I probably won't get a straight answer but I am going to take a chance: Did you think that was the best closure for Clark and Lana? Breaking them up because they had to, not because they learned as adults they were not going to work? — marhikaty

Souders: We wanted the young Lana we met eight years ago — the girl who always needed to be saved — to finish her arc as far from that helpless cheerleader as possible. It's because they were adults, challenging each other to be stronger and better, that they had to part. The Kryptonite was really a symbol for what fans knew all along — that they weren't destined for each other.

What has been your favorite episode this season and why? — heinzy512

Souders:I'm a big fan of "Identity." Watching Clark struggle with his two personas has been interesting and fun. I loved seeing him backed into corners from which he wasn't sure how to escape.

Although [Smallville series cocreators] Al Gough and Miles Millar have left the building, do you keep in contact with them? — smallville836

Souders:We absolutely do keep in contact with them. They created the show and had the vision for it.

Are any of the executive producers going to do commentaries on the Season 8 DVD? — Lennox

Souders: Brian [Peterson] and Darren [Swimmer] did it last week. Unfortunately, I had a fever of 102. But the episodes picked were two of my favorites from this year.
You can find the remaining Q&A here BUT please be aware that those include possible hints and spoilers for the rest of s8 and possible storylines for s9.

Thanks very much for bringing that over here, Pem. I enjoyed reading that (and yes, I'll be staying away from the spoilery stuff ).

Sure, Szilvia. There wasn't too many spoilish Q&A's but to be safe, I only posted the ones which reflected events which already happened. I do like that Kelly's favorite episode was Identity because that was such a fabulous episode - both for Clark and the rest of the cast.

Yes, I saw 'Identity' listed as a favourite episode, and that was nice to read. It's one of my faves, as well.
I'm very pleased to hear there will be episode commentaries on the S8 DVDs.

If only Tom would do a commentary. I am not holding my breath but I would love to hear his thoughts (on the show in general). I wonder if the other episode we will get a commentary on is Legion, Bride.

I'd love that, if Tom did another commentary. He could give a lot of insight on the show and on Clark's growth this season.
Commentary on either one of those 2 episodes would be great, or maybe on 'Odyssey.'

That would be nice. I always always wanted him to do a commentary (or gosh, even an interview) and talk about the episodes he's directed. I really love the episodes he's done and I would really interested in hearing how he approaches the episode from a director's prespective.

Yes, Pem, Tom's perspective would be a welcome thing.

Kush, now I'm curious, what would you have asked the producers?

Cassidy Freeman has been a one woman promotional machine of late and her latest interview, she had some wonderful things to say about being directed by Tom in Injustice:

Quote:
Cyn: This season you have the pleasure of being directed by two of your co-stars. Last week Tom Welling directed you in “Injustice.” How was that?

Cassidy: It was a lot of fun. Tom was the only director that actually gave me homework before the episode started - he made me watch a Danny Boyle movie called Sunshine. It’s kind of like a team of people who go out and try to reactivate the sun, it’s a really beautiful movie and I don’t know why it didn’t get more press. He made me watch it, then it got me all excited for the episode and then it was all kind of done so amazing. Tom and I get along very well and being directed by a fellow actor, especially for me who maybe doesn’t know all the directors that well, it was really nice to be directed by someone that I had a relationship with prior to the episode.

....Tom’s a little more laid back and very linear about his story telling, which then ends up looking beautiful. Also, Tom does this great thing - I don’t know if he always does this, but he did it - we’ll do some takes, we’ll get the coverage we need and then at the end he’ll go okay this one’s for you, and he’ll let the actors just do one for themselves i.e. go for it. And he said nine times out of ten that’s the take he chooses, which is really cool.

Awww, what a glowing review by Cassidy of Tom the Director. I love reading things like this, thank you so much for posting it.

I've been meaning to see that movie, Sunshine. Heard it's a good one.

Oh sure Szilvia, Cassidy has mentioned Tom in her other inteviews, and she mentioned several times that they get along really well. Also I love to hear about Tom the director I truly hope he gets more chances to direct next year.

It must be so nice for a newcomer to the set, such as Cassidy, to be able to feel so comfortable and at home while filming the show. I think it's a testament to the great set environment that the cast is always raving about. They're so fortunate to have that for SV.
As for Tom directing, he must be so pleased that he's been given all those opportunities so far. It does seem like he has taken to it very well, and to hear the cast members confirm what a marvelous job he does from behind the camera, well, it doesn't get much better than that.

From Hollywood Reporter, note this is still a possible rumor until tomorrow when the CW has their upfront.

Quote:
The CW may be the latest network to make a bold move on Thursday.

After days of rumblings, the CW is said to have settled on launching the hot new drama "Vampire Diaries" Thursday 8 p.m., paired with "Supernatural." "Vampire Diaries" would replace the staple in the time slot, departing veteran "Smallville," whose final ninth season would air on Friday, probably at 8 p.m.

The network is set to unveil its fall schedule Thursday in New York.

"Vampire Diaries," about a girl in a love triangle with two vampire brothers, is envisioned as a new tentpole series for Thursday night where the network already has built-in sci-fi audience with "Smallville" and "Supernatural."
This article is also assuming that s9 WILL be the final season too..

If it moves to Friday, this is the competition..

FOX: Brothers and ‘Til Death
ABC: Supernanny 911
CBS: Ghost Whisper
NBC: Law & Order

Hmm, interesting possible developments on The CW. If that goes through, here's hoping it'll be a good thing for SV, schedule/ratings wise.
Thank you for posting about that.
