Apparently there were some changes to the script and instead of rushing things, they pushed the last day of shooting back a week.

Tom deserves the time off. Like Glen said, the man's on the set all the time.

Also the delay could always been to give Tom a breather between finishing up his episode and then going right back into filming for the finale..

Aaah, okay. I'm sure the finale will be amazing.

This is a portion of an interview with Charlotte Sullivan (she played Maxima in Instinct), done by Bryan Cairns.
The complete interview was published in Smallville Magazine #31 (Mar./Apr. 2009).

Quote:
Sullivan wasn't nearly as relaxed with taking that intensity to the next level. In one quick sweep of his hand, Clark cleared off his office desk for some steamy fun before they stumbled into the elevator, where Maxima ripped open his shirt.

"I think we had to make out for two days for that scene," grins Sullivan. "Tom's a happily married man. I have to say, he was so respectful. There was one particular shot, on top of the desk, where I felt a little uncomfortable with the position of my leg. As my mom would say, I like to think of myself as a classy broad, and I didn't want to expose more than I was willing to. Tom was very sweet and made sure to position himself in a way that put me at ease. He would have me watch the playback and ask 'Are you happy with that? Is it okay?' As a woman, that's a really lovely way to work in something that is very physical and emotional. I was charmed to pieces by Tom. He would nail a scene in one take, but for me, it would be eight or nine. This was the best crew and the most beautiful cast I've ever encountered. I had an amazing time."

In my head, Tom isn't happily married

I love hearing just what a professional he is; a gentleman, and truly devoted he is to a show even after eight long long years. He is a rare breed. And god, reading about him from others only makes me love him more.

Thanks for bringing that over, Szilvia

I guess you're allowed that.

I know, he sounds like such an amazing person.
He's humble yet confident about his work, intelligent, and welcoming...'professional' sums it up very well, I'd say.

You're welcome. Sorry it took me a while, but at least I finally typed it up now.

And after eight years on the same tv show. That he has just as much devotion and dedication to a role where he no doubt has suffered frustration with over the years. To this day like Glen said, he comes in works twice as hard as everyone else, knows his lines, never complains and goes out of his way to make guest stars comfortable and everyone has something nice to say about him.

That warms my heart. It's a rarity for most actors and it's wonderful to know that Tom is one of them. And I have no idea what convinced him to another season of SV; but you know that even if money was a fact, that in the end, it was his enjoyment of playing Clark Kent and working with his costars/crew which had to be a big part of the decision too,

I'm guessing it hasn't been all smooth sailing, that's probably not realistic. He's handled it all with such class.

I believe he's genuinely invested in the show for more reasons than merely getting paid. With how much of his creative talent he adds to the process, I'm sure he gets rewarded by seeing all the cast and crew come together to produce quality episodes season after season.

Exactly. Hence why you know that if he was willingly to resign, the money wasn't the biggest factor, it was a creative one. I truly believe the writing this season and actually having Clark finally mature and grow up was a huge factor in his ultimate choice to say yes to a s9.

I also truly hope that he got more perks with his new contract like an producing credit (which IMO he should have had since s6) and if possible more opportunites to direct. I'd love to see him helm the season premiere since the season finale/series finale would be difficult because of the time constraints especially for prepping and post production with any episode he directs.

I'm guessing that Tom's enjoying the road that Clark's taking this season. That bodes well for next season, as well.

More perks like that with his new contract would be awesome. He's capable of so much...just needs to be given the opportunity and the time for it. I hope they worked something like that out with him. It would be satisfying for him, I'm sure.

I thought having Tom direct the season premiere could work because it's the first episode back; he might have to cut into his break by a week or two but it's probably easier than having to direct in the middle of the season. Also it would mean one less Clark light episode since there is no episode before (and depending on how s8 ends and s9 begins, the premiere might be Clark light anyways), and then he could do the rest of the episodes acting wise and if possible direct one again in mid season or maybe they will offer him a chance to do episode 21 again. Though if s9 is the last season, I can't imagine that they would let Tom direct any episode past 16-17 because having a the third to last episode of a final season be Clark light is wrong.

I hope we get some news about his deal. I really hope if they could they offered him more than one episode to direct. I love all the ones he's directed and it seems that he really enjoys being behind the camera too.

I don't like it when any episode is Clark-lite, but I do understand since Tom's directing takes a lot of extra work.

Directing more than one episode per season would be so great for Tom, professionally and personally. He seems to be a born director.

Just a reminder, in case any of you don't know, SV is on hiatus now until April 23rd.

Unfortunately they are reairing the weakest episodes from the second half season. It's too bad.

I think post SV, Tom could have a directing career like Tim Matheson, Jonathan Frakes, who both are still actors but of late, they have had very successful careers as tv directors and helmed some very well respected shows.

From K-Site Rumorville:

Quote:
Tom Welling On For Season 9... And Season 10?
UPDATED 4-8-09

Here's a juicy new rumor for Rumorville... we've heard buzz from multiple sources that Tom Welling may have signed for not just one, but TWO seasons when he recently extended his contract to do Season 9 this fall.

Now, whether Tom is signed or not, it all ultimately is up to Smallville's ratings on The CW for Season 9, as there would probably be no show if the network was not interested in it. If this rumor is true, though, it would explain why there has been very little talk of "the final season" being associated with Season 9... it also could explain why new sets are being erected when the series allegedly has only one year left.

As this is not confirmed by official sources (and likely won't be), we're keeping this on Rumorville for now.

Oh, interesting rumour, thanks for the tidbit.
I'm not surprised to hear a buzz about SV possibly going up to S10. Guess we'll see what happens...

I can't surprised by the rumor either. I am not sure I totally believe it's true but then again maybe we don't know much about s9 (I wouldn't be totally surprised if we learn that it will be a shortened season or maybe different from the norm but that's just my spec). Right now, it's just nice to know that Tom was willingly to resign for a s9.

Interesting speculations about S9. It'll be good to hear some confirmed news about it, later on.
