Exactly!

I'm on my week off this week. It does suck when you have to go back to work after a week off.

Enjoy your week! It's got to get hot mid week

First day nearly over, I'm only halfway through the piles of paper
That's the only problem with having time off, it takes me days to catch up

I will. Glad it's going to be nice this week, it's mum's birthday tomorrow, we're going to use my free zoo tickets as a volunteer.

Oh gosh, yeah, it does take some time catching up with stuff after a week off! I hope you'll catch up with it soon.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, we had a lot of fun. It was lovely for mum. I guided mum round the zoo and we covered most of it in the afternoon. I took a load of pictures which I've just put on my laptop, I'll post some tomorrow.

There was a lot of sea mist that covered most areas to begin with this morning, we weren't sure if it would clear but it did. I treated mum to a snack from the restaurant, a couple of sandwiches, crisps and drinks - I had the Strawberry Crush Luscombe which was delicious. As mum went to get a coffee later on in the afternoon, I sat down to have the other sandwich and minutes later a seagull (or a Herring Gull as I guess it's properly named) swooped right on my head from behind and pecked a bit of my sandwich off. I'm always wary of the gulls at the zoo, as they can cause a lot of trouble when you eat outside, but it was too nice to eat inside. But that one took me by surprise. They're devil birds!

Glad to hear you had a great day!

Ooh! It's a good job my mom wasn't there, she has a phobia with birds, she would of been hysterical sounds like a lovely treat for your mom, and good weather makes such a difference

Goodness! I can understand with seagulls, they are quite scary at times! You just don't realise how big they really are. But I love the smaller birds, like Robins and the birds we have in the zoo. Yeah, it really did make a difference.

Here are some pics.

Java Sparrow

Saltwater Crocodile

Gibbon

Asiatic Lion named Lucifer

Joey Kangaroo

Oh my goodness, thanks for posting those Liv, they are fantastic, such great pictures, it looks like a brilliant zoo....and my favourite Orangutans...just love them so much!

My mom loves to feed the birds and looking at them, but she would die if she had to touch one...although I'm the same with snakes...I run in the opposite direction if I'm ever near one not that that happens very often

No problem, I love to share them. I'm very proud of the pics I took, my new camera is so good. It is definitely one of the best zoos in the UK, if you ever get the chance to come to Devon on your holidays, do visit Paignton Zoo! I love Orangutans too, they're so adorable. We currently have two mums and two babies. It was a joy to see them all out together enjoying the sunshine! We were lucky when we went to see the Asiatic Lions as they were right by the window, which is how I got to zoom in and take really close up pics. Lucifer and the young female were mating to boot! Ever since they got Lucifer from London Zoo over a year ago they had been hoping for them to mate! So we might get cubs soon.

I can understand that! I went to the bird show we have at the zoo today (I've never been to one before) and this year they've got birds of prey. There was a young Barn Owl, a Harris Hawk (which is a big bird) and a little American Kestral. They let them fly over the audience, it was quite a rush feeling the draft as the Harris Hawk flew over my head! Definitely a much nicer experience than getting attacked by seagulls. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to hold a Harris Hawk on my hand, though, despite the protective glove.

You won't like some of the big snakes we have in the zoo then! Green Anacondas (the heaviest), Reticulated and Burmese Pythons, Boa Constrictors…! I'm fine with snakes, though I doubt I'd be brave enough to hold the big ones and certainly not the venomous ones. It's spiders I can't deal with, though funnily enough I was desperate for the Tarantula (in it's enclosure of course) to come out of it's hiding place, as it's always hiding there and I never see it fully out. If I saw one scuttling across the floor outside, that would be a different matter entirely. I'd run a mile!

It sounds amazing, if ever I'm down there I will definitely visit it

I'd love to see the baby Orangutans, and how brilliant if the Lions produce Cubs...they are becoming so rare it would be a fantastic thing for the zoo.

Birds of prey are beautiful but quite scary, I don't think I could hold one either

The snakes are not my thing, but I don't mind seeing them behind the glass

Yeah, I think Asiatic Lions are rarer than the African Lions, so it's great that our zoo is breeding them, they had cubs there before.

That's brilliant

I'm having a relaxing day today, just got a couple of jobs to do this morning, and I'm going to watch TV this afternoon, possibly including Mr Welling (CBTD).
