yup I agree, I think the right time for Lex to learn the truth about Clark was in asylum! I wish clark had told him the truth about him as they were holding each other

Back in S3? Hard to believe, that was so many seasons ago now. Excellent episode. That change in the story certainly would've changed their relationship in a big way. I think Lex would've appreciated the honesty, but what would he have done, in the long run, after making that discovery? Would Lionel's influence still affect him? Just pondering out loud, so to speak.

maybe a big part of Lex' angst against Clark is the fact that he felt Clark betrayed him, in some way...that after giving a big part of himself to Clark, he deserved the same courtesy or whatnot..

I think it would´ve been great if Clark had told Lex the truth about his secret in that episode because in it he proved to Clark that he would be loyal to him, that he was happy to know his secret and I think after everything they had gone through together Lex deserved that Clark was honest to him. I really don´t think that Lex had betrayed Clark because he cared about him, he loved his alien! Clark had nothing to be afraid of, IMO.

Clark was holding back for the longest time about sharing his secret, and not just with Lex. I think there was the fear of the unknown, being unsure of how others would handle it and how they'd treat him, plus the issue of potentially putting them in danger. He felt he had his reasons, although Lex and others around Clark had a sense about him all along, being 'special.' There were several moments where I wanted Clark to tell Lex the truth about his origins, but I suppose even though it took a while, Lex did eventually find out.

IA, Clark had his reasons to not tell his secret to all the people around him because as you say, he didn´t know how they would react.. but I think he made a huge mistake because in the end the only person who proved several times didn´t deserve to know was Pete. I think if Lex had known his secret when they were still friends he would´ve protected him. Lex always suspected clark was an alien and he never did anything to hurt Clark.

I think Clark should´ve trusted more in the people he cared about because being so distrustful only caused him problems and that he ended up being alone. Lex deserved that clark himself trusted him.

Lex helped Clark so many times, and it did go both ways, too, with how Clark saved Lex or showed concern for his safety. Lex's insatiable curiosity about Clark and all things alien/unexplained seemed to push Clark further away...Clark wasn't ready to share his secret, but I think because Lex figured out early on that Clark is superhuman just made him want to know for certain, at any cost. All the hints throughout their time knowing each other were maybe too much for him to let it be.

I didn't like seeing Clark be sad and alone so much.

Trust, or the lack of it, is quite a central topic on SV.

Yup, Ironically that's what makes me love them even more in a way, that not even the lies nor the secrets between them could break them up. The lack of each other always hurt them both badly, that even when they weren´t friends anymore they needed to know the other was doing fine and when any of them was in danger and needed some help they were always there for one another.

They kept proving time after time that the love between them never died because it was the only thing being true in their relationship in the first place
