but Ruth really shocked me - she was incredible. Very passionate and amazing vocals. I'd always thought she was good but on Sunday, she quickly jumped to being my second favourite of the series. The cheers when she had finished were much much louder than they had been when she first came on

That's my rockerita. Everyone who saw the tour said her singing Purple Rain live was INCREDIBLE.

Would have to be Diana Vickers. Ive never became so attached to a contestant before her. I used to just watch the show but she made me obsessed with it, to the point that when i was in Australia for a month of it id have my mate text me the results then go on you tube to watch her performances. And i still follow her. Normally when you like a reality contestant a few weeks later you stop caring but i still love the Vickers

The X Factor is one of the better reality tv shows out there I must admit. They do a good job. Yes, Diana is one of my favorites!

Some Laura news:

'X Factor' Laura invites fans for video

X Factor 2008 singer Laura White has offered fans the chance to be in her first music video.

White, 21, has asked her supporters to send their details to her official website, where 50 winners will be picked to appear in the promo. "Just 50 of you lucky fans will be chosen by my team to star in the video for my first single," she wrote on her site. "It's gonna be so amazing and those picked will have so much fun with me on the day!"

Last month, the reality TV star revealed that she was going to allow her fans to pick her debut single from a choice of four on her official site. Snippets of the songs 'You Should Have Known', 'Got It Bad', 'Touch You' and 'Hurts' are available to hear now.

White, who exited The X Factor in the fifth live show, was awarded the Digital Spy Reality TV Awards most memorable exit gong in April.

I can't wait to see this year's lot. And when it gets to the live shows it looks like there will be some good guests.

Houston 'to mentor X Factor finalists'

Whitney Houston has been booked to sing on The X Factor this October, it has been claimed. According to The Mirror, the star will be the first major act to appear on this year's show and will also mentor the finalists for one week on the programme.

A source said about the alleged booking: "Simon Cowell is ****-a-hoop."

Houston is expected to perform a song from her long-awaited comeback album. Other stars tipped to appear on this year's show include Madonna, Robbie Williams, Rihanna and Shakira.

The X Factor returns this Saturday at 7pm on ITV1.

I'm so excited for X Factor to start again tonight but I hate the idea of a live audience mainly because it is getting too much like Britain's Got Talent. Soon enough there will be buzzers if there aren't already.

I would LOVE to see Whitney Houston on X Factor this year! The performance would be amazing! I'm quite disappointed by the other choices though, especially Robbie Williams. I'm alsmot definate the ONLY reason he's going on the show is to promote his new album, not because it's a fun and amazing thing to do.

That bloke Danyl at the end tonight was AWESOME, no wonder he got a standing ovation.

I agreed with Simon about those Irish twins, they were plain annoying and pretty average singers.

Finally it's on! My favs of the night, and I'm calling it for the season, were the single mother [I forgot her name], Joe, Duane, and the teacher who sang [I forgot his name as well]. They blew me away, seriously.

Yeah, the twins were SO obnoxious and not cute at all, omg. And triple trouble was just disgusting. But either way, Cheryl looked absolutely stunning the whole time which made it all worth while <3.

ETA: I just read through the thread and YES. My fav last yr was Diana. I hated the Burke, honestly. Diana should've won.

I love that animation!

I still think the winner's song would have suited Diana more than anyone. Jeff Buckley's version will aways be the best though.

And I agree on the favourites from last night's show. The three you mentioned were all amazing.

^I agree about the winner's song Alexandra took away all the emotion from it I felt with all the key changes and big choirs, it's a simple song!

Loved it last night, it's back! I am much too excited for my own good...
