The X Factor #2

We needed a new thread, so I took the liberty, hope no one minds. This was the only title I could come up with on short notice, sorry.

I'll post my thoughts on tonight's results a bit later.

Someone remind me what the point of the sing-off or the judges is if they're going to take it back to the public vote every week? last week I thought it was fair because Miss Frank and Danyl were both really good (and I think Cheryl would have voted out Danyl regardless) but this week.. ugh, Simon. Rachel is clearly the better singer of the two, and since when does Simon let people off the hook for being ill? In that case he should have just looked back instead of just that final performance and voted out Lloyd for being quite crap.

His comment that Rachel had been in the bottom two three times now so obviously the public aren't liking her annoyed me.. if he's judging based on the public now then shouldn't he start backing Jedward and saying they deserve to be there seeing as the public are keeping them in? and there's not a chance he would have said that if Danyl had been in the bottom two for a second time, he would have just said the public are idiots.

I'm glad Lloyd was in the bottom two, but if Jedward aren't going then he should have, Rachel was fantastic in the sing-off next week, I hope.

I was wondering the same. Like, if this is how it's gonna be then just keep it as the audience votes ppl out as it should be instead of having the judges vote yet again. Like, c'mon. Rachel was clearly better tonight and pretty much in every performance aside from the fact that Lloyd, sore throat or not, has never once gotten a raving 4 star review from the judges while Rachel at least did get that much. Like, stop trying to be democratic when you never are, Simon.

I was HOPING Jedward and Lloyd would be the bottom two acts tonight but of course, the twins are gonna get saved.

I have a bit of a rant to make, and it concerns J+E and some of the things I've been reading in the media.

People saying they should be made to leave The X Factor (or do the "honourable thing" and step down) really piss me off. I know they're not the best singers in the competition, but as long as they're getting enough votes they deserve to be there as much as any other act on the show. If you don't like them then it's up to you to vote for someone else every week.

Surely, asking them to leave (or forcing them to step down) would go against everything The X Factor stands for? When the show first started they obviously decided to put it to the public vote, if the producers of the show went against that now they would look like they're saying "it's down to the public vote unless we think the public are wrong". Which isn't what the show's about, is it? It would just be hypocritical.

Danyl (just to take one example) is a fantastic singer, but he can't entertain worth toffee and has about as much charisma as damp lettuce. Now if there's one positive thing you can say about John and Edward it's that they can entertain and do it very well, and that's why I watch shows like this at the end of the day, to be entertained and have fun. You can be the greatest singer in the world, but if I almost fall asleep watching you, then you ain't getting my vote. The twins are up for a laugh, don't take it too seriously and just go out there and have fun, and good on them. They're the act everyone is waiting with baited breath to see every week, so they're obviously doing something right. Rock on boys!

Jedward aren't going to win, so I wish people would suck it up and deal with it until they leave the competition, instead of taking the whole thing so darn seriously.

I feel better now.

I was ok with the bottom two. Honestly I was pleased to see Lloyd drop into the bottom two, as I was worried that he was getting tons of girly votes. And whilst I did feel bad for Llody as he obviously had lost his voice and was struggling to sing, the fact is that not only did Rachel out sing him last night, but she has out sung him every week, he is vocally poor. So for Simon to go on about talent, and insist people should be voting on the singing, I don't understand how he could vote to keep Lloyd. Ok so there is a good chance had Rachel stayed that she would have been in the bottom two again this week, but she deserved that spot on the show over Lloyd. I understood going to deadlock the other week with Danyl and Miss Frank, but vocally the choice was obvious between Rachel and Lloyd.

I'm pleased that last night's vote shows Joe is the most popular out of Cheryl's acts as it was clear from the start he had the best voice out of her three, and he's been so consistent. But it also shows that Cheryl probably picked the wrong acts to bring on to the live shows.

As for Danyl the tears simply annoyed me. Yes obviously it has hard when you've been in the bottom two and had lots of criticism, but Rachel came back fighting every week, and John And Edward have dealt with tons of criticism, but they still come out smiling and give it everything. Danyl needs to pull himself together and fight for his place if he wants to stay. His performace this week was not good at all, and rather than winning over his doubters, or people who are on the fence about him, he's simply alienating them even more. For me the only reason he was safe this week was because last week he was in the bottom two so fans that hadn't voted last week actually bothered to vote this week, and may have voted even more than they usually did, and also i'm sure there was a few sympathy votes thrown in.

I completely agree with this. You were in the bottom two, boo hoo, pull yourself together and fight rather than whinging about how hard it all is. Danyl says he's a fan of Jedward and wants people to lay off them, he should look to them for how to deal with negativity, because they've had negativity thrown at them from the start but they come out fighting every week and just get on with it. If Danyl did that and tried to show he was worthy of his place in the competition people might warm to him more. But as it is, as you say, he's just giving people more reason to dislike him.

Danyl's tears pissed me off for that very reason. Everyone has to get a chance to be the bottom 2 since there's only gonna be one winner so he needs to stop acting like a little baby and suck it up and do better. I honestly was so thoroughly annoyed with him, even more than I am normally. Yes, ppl write mean things, Jedward (as much as I hate them) have had the world written about them and they don't show an ounce of it in their performances. Danyl gets written about and he's this blubbering baby....STFU.

I agree with every word. Danyl needs to man up and stop acting like a whimpering baby. If J+E took every rude comment they received to heart they'd be total wrecks, a thick skin is essential for a competition like this which suddenly thrusts people in to the spotlight for the public to judge.

Danyl should of came out fighting, and he didnt. It made me dislike him even more.

Jedward are starting to grow on me, but i just dont want them to win. People will buy the first single and thats it. They dont have a hope in hell of sustaining a career. They are entertaining though ill give them that.

And Lloyd should of gone. Hes one of the weakest singers in the competition. Fact. I was shocked that Simon didnt vote him out to be honest.

Seriously. I really hated every single second he was on stage and I hated him not being in the bottom 2.

Louis came across as a complete twat when he had a go at Dermot tonight, totally spat the dummy out. Glad Dermot put him back in his place.

Best of the lot for me was Joe, he pwned everyone else's vocal hands down, that was the kind of performance I'd waited all night to see. I also really liked Jamie and Olly, thought Stacey did a pretty good job as well.

Jedward were...Jedward. Not much else I can say. Had me in stitches again, that was just how I imagined them doing that song. And an almost compliment from Simon, I think the world stopped spinning!

Lloyd needs a new category invented for ho bad he is, that was just absolute rubbish. I predict the bottom two again for him. I think vocally he might even have been worse than Jedward tonight, I was cringing at him. Lovely boy, but he needs to go now please.

Danyl was good and certainly much better than last week, and I agree with Cheryl, a much improved attitude from him. But god I find him SO dull to watch, it's like watching paint dry. And Ruth Lorenzo's sing-off version of Purple Rain last year is sacred to me, no other performance of that song will ever match it.

Lucie wasn't bad and she wasn't fantastic, a middle of the road performance from her tonight. I'm allergic to all that tweenish Disney stuff like Camp Rock and HSM, it makes me want to set myself on fire, so the song didn't do her any favours with me.

I think I've managed to cover everyone with that.

Joe is still my favourite, beautiful song choice, it really suited his voice. I don't care about the comments saying he is more suited to musical theatre. I would take that as a compliment, but there is no reason why he can't be a pop star too. I would buy an album with his voice on tomorrow if I could.

I was so glad to see Stacey move about more. I understand she is shy, and it's one of the reasons why people love her so much, they can relate to her, but it's good to see her gaining more confidence and upping her game. I wasn't mad about the song choice but I thought it was quite a good performance.

I didn't really care about Lucie's song either. I've never seen that film, or heard the song before, and I can think of quite a lot of songs that would have been better for her. I think she has so much potential, and that song was just average. I do really like her though, and think she has a great voice.

Lloyd needs to go home. It's painful to watch, I don't know if he just can't sing or if it's nerves or what. But each week seems like such an ordeal, having to sit through his performance as he attempts to reach notes he can't get it, or listen as he sings out of tune, it's painful. Personally I think if he was going to be on the live shows then he needed another year, maybe two. He's not strong enough vocally or mentally to deal with it all.

Jamie I feel bad for. He is really talented but I do feel out of Simon's three he gets the raw deal. I think Unchained Melody would have been a disaster, it's such a predictable song choice from Simon, he focuses so much on Danyl, comes up with songs that would suit Olly and his personality, and yet when it comes to Jamie Simon just doesn't seem to get him. I hope Jamie picks his own songs from now on as he seems much better at it.

Olly - I love. He's so consistent. He's a natural performer, probably the most natural on the entire show, he just has it. My only fear for him is that Simon is steering him in one direction and giving him songs that are very similar every week. Obviously you need to play to people's strengths, Olly has such a charm, he's got a unique style, and you don't want to take that all away, but I don't think we've seen the best of Olly. I would like to see him sing a song that tested his voice more and allowed him to show people what he can do.

Danyl - it was better this week. But I just still don't like him. I don't think I'm going to. As somone mentioned, all these changes he's doing, it just makes it feel like an act, he's trying to act not cocky. It's difficult, because whatever he does people are still going to find fault, myself included. All he can do is go out and keep on trying to win people over and sing his heart out.

John and Edward were hilarious, as soon as I heard they were doing Ghostbusters i knew it was going to be good. And they didn't disappoint. Can they sing? No. Can they entertain? Absolutely. They definitely bring fun to the show. Having said that, I don't want to see someone I like, and who is really good, go, and them stay.

I'm trying to ignore most of the judges comments atm. I feel like there are so many games being played. And I've gone from someone who usually agreed with Simon's opinions or at least saw where he was coming from to not being able to take him seriously at all. He has become the worst one imo. He gives all of his acts standing ovations. There was me thinking a standing ovation was saved for something truly amazing, an unforgettable performance. I don't think we've had that yet this series, and yet based on Simon we've had three every week. And then I feel like he tries to bring down the other acts and comments about stupid things. For instance with Joe last week when he had those two dancers in the background, okay so I was wondering what they were doing and wishing they would focus more on Joe, but Simon spent more time criticising what the two dancers were doing than he did actually talking about joe's performance or vocal. And yet isn't he the one who keeps saying they should focus on the singing?

Totally agree with what you said about Joe. TLK is my favourite Disney film ever and I adore the music from it, that song was spot on for Joe. It was perfect for his voice and I thought he did a very good job at selling the emotion of it.

I also agree totally with your comments on the judges, Simon is driving me up the wall. He is SO biased, especially when it comes to Danyl. He needs to accept that not everyone will agree with him and I wish he would stop shoving his opinion of Danyl's superiority down our throats. I also wish he would stop continually reminding us that he's the only judge with all 3 acts left in the competition. The constant bickering and sniping with Louis also really gets my goat, give them a handbag each because they're like bitchy old women. The only judges I like right now are Dannii and Cheryl, because they're pretty unbiased and are focused on actually helping their acts do as well as possible as opposed to playing mind games. But I feel like hitting mute when either Simon or Louis open their mouths right now, they make me want to throw things at the TV.

My god, YES. I already agreed with your whole post but this bit, WORD. IDK what Simon's thinking cause Joe has the best male vocal of the entire show and he proves it week after week. I could do without his swaying when performing too but I still adore him and his voice just kinda soothes you in a way.

Lucie, I really liked that performance and song for her. While I like Demi Lovato a lot, I hate all Disney crap like Camp Rock and Jobros/Hannah Montana so I'd never heard the song but it came at an advantage for her cause I feel she could make the song her own and she did. It felt much more natural than having her go up there and sing something else.

I kinda was expecting someone to sing Hungry Eyes or I've Had The Time Of My Life cause it's so predictable but thankfully no one did, lol. I adore Dirty Dancing but I wanted some choices that were unpredictable.

That was my prob with Olly this week. Now I LOVE Olly to bits and he's my choice to win but giving him the same style of songs every week doesn't help him. I mean sure, it's safe and secures his spot but I think he should have the chance to spread his wings and fail if it doesn't work for him.

Danyl needs to DIAF now. With Lloyd and Jedward. Danyl, granted, did much better this week than the previous one and I like the haircut but I still don't like him and no amount of talent will help that. I know he can sing but I wouldn't vote for him and Simon's cockiness about him rubs off on my already negative attitude about him as a performer. Lloyd fails every week, HARD. Every single time on stage, I think "this would be so much better if Ethan or Duane were singing it".

Did Lucie drink some Stacey pills cause she was starting to sound like her after her performance.

WORD to all of this, couldn't agree more. When Dannii said "Best male vocal in the competition hands down" to Joe I was like "THANK YOU JESUS, YES." Finally someone saying what I was thinking. If Joe was in Simon's category, you just know he'd be fawning all over him and talking him up to the max, the guy's bias is unreal. And I'm with you on his voice soothing you, I find myself going to a mellow happy place when Joe sings, it's so relaxing.
