Top Design (premieres Wednesday, January 31 on Bravo)

Off the heels of the critically acclaimed "Top Chef" and the Emmy-nominated hit "Project Runway," Bravo's newest reality competition series "Top Design" offers a behind the scenes look at the creative, competitive and client-driven interior design business at the highest level.

The series features twelve aspiring interior designers who are united in their quest to create the "Top Design" in each episode in the series as they vie for cash to start their own design firm and a spot in one of New York's finest designer showcases. Production, which begins this month, will take place in Los Angeles.

"This highly anticipated new series puts the spotlight on interior design," said Frances Berwick, Executive Vice President, Programming and Production, Bravo. "Los Angeles is an exciting and colorful backdrop that will give our competing interior designers the chance to utilize all the city has to offer, while giving viewers a peek inside their creative and challenging world."

In "Top Design," high pressure, eccentric personalities and creative egos combine to fuel the next big hit in competition reality. Aspiring and professional interior design contestants will converge and compete in a series of challenges to create the "Top Design" while living in a decked-out studio loft as they are inspired and critiqued by professionals who are leaders in their chosen field.

I'm really excited for this. I hope it's as good as Top Chef and Project Runway have been.

Don't forget the premiere is right after the Top Chef finale this Wednesday!

I'm going to give this show a shot and see how I like it. I really enjoyed HGTV's "Design Star" that aired several months ago, so I hope this show is along those same lines.

i love project runway and top chef, so i'm sure that this one will be just as good.

unless the designers are annoying, which i'll admit a few of them have appeared that way on the promo. hopefully they aren't that bad though.

i think it'll just be interesting to see what kindof designs and rooms they will come up with.

I really loved HGTV's Design Star and my favourite person won which hardly ever happens. I hope Top Design will be as good or even better.

i thoroughly enjoyed the premiere. i definitely think i'm going to enjoy the show. i just love seeing what kindof rooms they can come up with.

based on first impressions after tonights designs i like Ryan, Goil, Andrea, the chick w/ glasses Karisa i think her name may be, and the woman that was paired w/ Goil.

i highly dislike Michael and the guy he was working with. Michael was too much of a diva and his partner was a bit narcicisstic, he wouldn't let Michael get a word in on any of the designs he'd like to do.

i was ok w/ the team that left, i felt that their room was a bit too "themed" and it did kindof resemble a chinese restaurant.

I liked the episode but I think I liked Design Star a bit more. Todd Oldham may be a fabulous designer but he sure makes a stiff and boring host. I hope he loosens up more.

I didn't like that Goil and Elizabeth won. I like the idea of the swing but besides that and one wooden chair, there wasn't anywhere else to sit, as one of the judges mentioned. Some sanctuary. I didn't entirely love Felicia and Matt's room (the one with that ledge bench and the cut out display shelf) but I thought it was better than the swing room. But it seems it was Alexis who chose her favourite room as the winning one and well, I don't think she has much taste anyway.

I really wanted Michael and John to get sent home. Their room was awful and I can't stand listening to either of them. John was a bully and Michael was a wuss who didn't want to get his hands dirty. I don't like John but he was right when he said he did the bulk of the work.

I loved the Chinese wedding bed, though I wouldn't want the room because I don't like theme rooms. (I do think we'll be seeing a lot of them during this show.) That room also seemed cluttered. There was no space to move around in. This may contradict what I just said about clutter, but they really should have spent closer to $50,000.

I hope anyone who puts a sandbox in a room doesn't have cats (very large litter box) or kids (sand tracked everywhere).

I had never heard of Alexis Arquette before. Wow. Not really a fan of any of the Arquette clan, actually, but she seems fun.

Michael looks just like Ralphie from A Christmas Story, only with a thinner and older face. What is wrong with you that you don't know how to paint? It's not rocket science. It's not even fifth grade science. Pick up a roller or a brush and go.

I don't know what it is but there is something about the Elle Decor editor that I absolutely love. She kind of looks like she was transplanted from 1950 right into 2007.

Yeah, I looked her up on Wikipedia and found that out.

None of the rooms this week really wowed me. I don't know, I hate to say it again but I still think I like Design Star a lot more. All the rooms so far have bored me. They've either been really boring, way too themey or just plain ugly.

i didn't get a chance to watch the whole episode yet, i just saw the very end and saw who won and who got sent home. the winning room looked ok, though without watching the whole episode i'm not really sure what or who they were designing for.

i am however glad that John left. after last week i would have been happy w/ him or Michael leaving.

Yah, definitely glad that John was eliminated. He revealed something at the beginning of the episode that sort of explained his temper but still, I didn't like him much.

Oh, and "See you later, decorator!" is officially the lamest "you're fired" line ever.
