Thank God You're Here! (hilarious new Aussie show)

Just wondering if any other Aussies are watching this new show? It's been rating amazingly well, (1.5 million for the first couple of weeks, and up to 1.75 for the last couple....it out-rated House this week!), so I'm guessing it'll stick around for a little while.

I don't know if it's *cough*downloadable*cough*, but I'd recommend it to people in other countries too if you can get a look at it, (if you click this link you should get to a page where you can download a clip from the latest ep).

Here's the blurb from the Channel 10 site....

Thank God You’re Here is based on a simple premise; get a group of well known performers and make each walk through a door into a scene without any idea of who they are or what they’re walking into. It might be an operating theatre and a simple greeting, “Thank God you’re here Doctor, the patient’s ready.” It may be a Roman dungeon, a boardroom, a starship or a tonight show. They only thing they can bank on is that everyone else in the scene knows who they are and that their role will be critical. The only things they can depend on are their abilities to make everything up for the next five minutes and cover their tracks as they do it.

Each cast member gets a scene and then the entire team are subjected to the final scenario. That might be a meeting of superheroes where their superpowers need a little explaining or a wise council of chiefs where junior tribal members can’t wait to hear some wise advice on a number of problems.

Thank God You’re Here is about the enjoyment of watching performers pushed into the discomfort zone. It supports the adage that a brilliant mind in panic is a wonderful thing to behold.

There’s no “voting out”, just a celebration of the more ridiculous “stretches” by a judge who then awards a weekly winner with a view to a series final. It’s a fun show that showcases a performer’s versatility as well as their abilities to lie, deceive and… well… basically bull@#*!.

I just think it's wonderful to finally see a new Aussie show actually taking off and rating well for a change. And it's totally hilarious. I'm scared for each of them right before they walk through that door each week!

I like TGYH. Heh, it was funny to have Dan O'Connor & Nat Bassingthwaite there the other week.

I'd like to see them change the actors up a little bit, 2 from the previous week play again the next week, but looking back it seems like there hasn't been much variety..

It's a good concept though, I'm really surprised to see how well it's doing. I like the show but didn't think anyone else did. Hehe.

oooh, I watch!

It's pretty funny... I agree with Evie that there needs to be different people brought in. I think 3 of the 4 on last night had been on previous weeks.

I was so looking forward to Wednesday's ep, cos I knew Julia Zemiro would be back again [I think she's hilarious! My favourite TGYH performer by far] but someone rang up and I missed it. I did see the final group sketch, heh, she was funny..[understandably ] getting distracted in the sports locker room.

Heh, my friend and I have a small obsession with Shaun Micallef.

Julia has been hilarious whenever she's been on.

Angus is fantastic, too. I know he's been on pretty much every week, (I can only assume that for the first series the Working Dog crew basically called in favours from friends to be on the show, which is why they don't have a cast of thousands), but I've loved everything he's done. A couple weeks back, when they had one of their little pre-show challenges, and it was the one with the cheese in the resturaunt, I loved that it ended with someone asking him what his favourite cheese was and without skipping a beat, and delivered totally deadpan, "Kraft singles."

Shaun Micallef is such a funny guy. I'm still pissed off that his talk show got canned so quickly.

Only a few eps left by the look of the ad this week.

How long has the show been going for? Is it really the end of the season, or one of those axings that's meant to look like a season finale but then you never see it again? I hope another season is on the cards. I love it.

I think I saw that one, Phee. He is pretty funny. Peter Rowsthorn's good too. I missed last week's ep, but the ad for it with him singing always cracks me up. "Won't you ring my be-eeeeell"

I'm pretty sure it's not an axing, coz last week there were a bit over 1.6 million people watching, so it's not like it doesn't rate. I suspect they'd always planned a short season, because they wouldn't have known how it would go, considering most new Aussie shows tank these days. Here's hoping they give us another season ASAP.

That was so awesome. He was the captain of a cruise ship, having to confront a group of disgruntled travellers, and then smoke started pouring in and the alarm went off and he just started singing.
