Reality Show News Thread

This could probably go in the Survivor thread but I've been thinking about starting a news thread so I might as well do it when I have some news to post. And some of you might have seen season 1 of Survivor but don't watch it anymore. If you have news on an old show that's not on anymore or an earlier season of a show that has a new thread for every season, post it here.

Richard Hatch pleads guilty of tax evasion

Quote:
Hatch will plead guilty to tax evasion after federal prosecutors charged him with failing to report the $1 million winnings in 2000 and more than $300,000 he earned the following year from radio appearances.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Providence, Rhode Island, announced on Tuesday that it had charged Hatch, 43, with two counts of filing false tax returns.

Hours later, a copy of Hatch's plea agreement was posted on The Providence Journal's Web site. Hatch's attorney, Justin Holden, said the document was authentic but declined further comment on the case.

The charges against Hatch carry a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, but the government said it would recommend a lesser sentence. Hatch, who lives in Newport, Rhode Island, is due to appear in court next Monday in Providence, prosecutors said.

from TVGuide.com:

Quote:
THE NEXT CATS?: Omarosa, dust off your tap shoes: The Apprentice is heading to Broadway. Seriously. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark Burnett and Donald Trump are developing The Apprentice: The Musical. Burnett, who is currently writing the book for the musical, describes it simply as "a love story" — presumably between a man and his ego.
Trump is getting carried away.

I've heard that the next Amazing Race is going to be one with reality tv stars, like Rob and Amber. Anyone know if that's true? I'm not really diggin' that. I'm not a big fan of the reality tv stars on reality tv shows.

I've heard that Rob and Amber are going to be on contestants on the next Amazing Race too.

Nicole Richie is set to wed

From E News!

Paris Hilton isn't losing a reality TV costar, she's gaining new material.

Nicole Richie, Hilton's Simple Life cohort, has announced her engagement to boyfriend Adam Goldstein.

No wedding date has been set, Richie's publicist told E! on Tuesday. The marriage would be the first for both.

Richie, 23, is best known as the craftily edited version of herself on Fox's The Simple Life, the rich-fishes-out-of-water reality series now in its third season.

Goldstein is a thirtysomething deejay on the Los Angeles scene who mixes tunes under the name of DJ AM

Richie and Goldstein have been an item for a year. Last month he provided the music for the shoot of her upcoming Bongo Jeans TV commercial. Other recent credits include a New Year's Eve shindig with Wilmer Valderrama and the Black Eyed Peas in Miami, an inaugural bash in Washington, D.C., and a Simple Life wrap party.

Richie hails from the Hollywood home of pop star Lionel Richie; Goldstein hails from Philadelphia, where, according to his official Website, he learned to keep it real, word.

"Some brothas would run up to jack me, and I would bust a beat box for them," the DJ AM bio reads, "and next thing I knew, it was a freestyle session for an hour."

Prior to her Simple Life debut in December 2003, Richie was busted, not in a beat box way, for drug possession. She subsequently entered rehab, and earned kudos from her sentencing judge for her newfound sobriety.

The Simple Life: Interns, the latest example of Richie and Hilton's collaborative work, scored to its best-ever premiere numbers on Jan. 26.

After spending two seasons tormenting small towns, the duo have been dispatched in Interns to the corporate world. The Richie and Hilton effect on domestic productivity has yet to be determined.

Richie will try to add to her bottom line by launching a music career. A debut album is said to be in the works. It seems she has this in with a deejay...

I think this might actually work. I remember hearing her say that she had a thing for pale skinny men and he does fit the description.

CBS ORDERS 8TH AND 9TH INSTALLMENTS OF THE EMMY AWARD-WINNING REALITY SERIES “THE AMAZING RACE”
Released by CBS

CBS ORDERS 8TH AND 9TH INSTALLMENTS OF THE EMMY AWARD-WINNING REALITY SERIES “THE AMAZING RACE”

Teams Participating In “The Amazing Race 8” Will Be Part Of the Series’ First Ever “Family Edition”

A Nationwide Casting Search For Families to Compete in “The Amazing Race 8” Begins This week

CBS has ordered the eighth and ninth installments of THE AMAZING RACE to be broadcast during the 2005/2006 television season. The Emmy Award-wining adventure reality series pits teams against one another in a race around the world for a $1 million prize.

In a format twist, THE AMAZING RACE 8 will be an all-family edition. Teams will be expanded to four members from two, and all teams will be comprised exclusively of family members. Examples of “family edition” teams could be traditional families (mom, dad and two kids), blended families (newly married with step siblings), four sisters, four brothers, multi-generational (grandparents and grandchildren) or engaged couples with in-laws-to-be, etc.

Families who think they have the stamina, wits and teamwork skills to compete in this heart-pounding adventure can find applications exclusively on CBS.com. All children participating must be 12 years of age or older. No prior travel experience is necessary.

“Everyone can relate to family travel…the camaraderie, the emotion and even the conflict,” said executive producer Bertram van Munster. “We’re looking for families who want to turn this familiar concept into an adventure that will take them to some amazing places while discovering a lot about their family dynamic and human spirit.”

THE AMAZING RACE 9 will return to the series’ regular format in which teams must have a unique and a prior relationship with their teammate, but need not be related.

The newest edition of the hit reality series, THE AMAZING RACE 7, will premiere on Tuesday, March 1 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Bertram van Munster, Jonathan Littman and Hayma Screech Washington are the executive producers for Bruckheimer Television and Earthview Inc. in association with Touchstone Television and Amazing Race Productions. Amy Chacon and Evan Weinstein are co-executive producers. THE AMAZING RACE was created by Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri.
I'm glad the show has been renewed for 2 more seasons, but I'm not sure how I feel about a family edition yet. At least it'll return to it's regular format in season 9.

I think the family edition could be interesting, but it could also have the potential for...not exactly abusive situations, but we know how intense things can get and I think it's different if you start yelling at your minor child than an adult child or a boyfriend.

If they keep the same amount of teams, that's going to be a lot of people wandering around.

I'm really not feeling the whole family edition thing. If they were all over the age of 18, though, I wouldn't mind so much but I don't have much of an interest seeing little kids compete.

It's also going to be sooo much harder to get flights and taxis now. They're going to have to book for 6 people on flights (4 family members plus 2 crew) meaning it's going to be impossible to try and squeeze on an earlier flight. And they're going to have to try and get van taxis or risk getting 2 separate ones if that's even allowed.

I can see where it will be a problem with taxis, but I always wondered if CBS books ahead on the flights at least one camera person so players wont have to worry about them and then CBS just cancels the flights they aren't needed on. This will really be a challenge though however they do it. Getting 2 in a cab with a cameraman is hard enough especially in the smaller countries where the cabs are tiny. They will need more cabs, more money, and try to not get seperated from your team. I really hope any kids playing along are older kids- like adult kids.

Yay for Jack & Nat!
