I read on The Futon Critic that Hell's Kitchen will return in March. It's taking The OC's place after that show ends.

Viewers to judge Big Brother race spat

By Miguel D'Souza

January 19, 2007 12:00am
Article from: NEWS.com.au

THE two key players in the racism scandal that has engulfed Britain's Celebrity Big Brother will be judged by the court of public opinion within hours after both were nominated for eviction from the house.

There has been mounting outrage at the flagrant racism targeting Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty by the other housemates - in particular Jade Goody, whose loudmouth antics on a previous BB series made her a household name in Britain. Either Goody or Shetty will be evicted tonight, UK time (tomorrow AEDT).

Shetty has withdrawn her complaint of racial discrimination against fellow housemates, but controversy continues over the show, which has broken all records for the number of complaints by the public to its broadcaster, Channel 4.

Shetty, a Tamil-born actress who has made 51 Bollywood films, has been referred to as a "dog", while housemates complained after she had touched their food, and Ms Shetty was also asked if she lives in a hut. She was also called "the Indian", with housemate Jade Goody overnight dubbing her "Shilpa Poppadum".

The show's sole sponsor, Carphone Warehouse, yesterday pulled its £3m endorsement of the program and the UK culture secretary, Tessa Jowell, described it as "racism being presented as entertainment". "I think it is disgusting," Ms Jowell said.

In a video hosted on Big Brother UK's website, Ms Shetty has said she doesn't believe the attacks were racially motivated.

"I don't feel there was any racial discrimination from Jade's end," Channel 4 television quoted her as saying on its website.

In a conversation with the show's Big Brother character, Ms Shetty was asked her if she still thought that Jade's argument with her was racially motivated, to which she shook her head.

"No, I take it back. Everyone was having an argument. I don't think that is true now. People say things in a fit of anger. But I stand corrected," the actress said.

Hertfordshire police have referred complaints about the alleged racial harassment to the UK's media regulator, OfCom.

Australian-born author Germaine Greer, wrote in The Guardian this week that Ms Shetty "knows that if she infuriates people enough, their innate racism will spew forth".

"Everything about her is infuriating: her haughty way of stalking about, her indomitable self-confidence, her chandelier earrings, her leaping eyebrows, her mirthless smile, her putty nose and her eternal bray, "Why does everyone hate me?" Not to mention the crying jags," wrote Greer.

The Indian press has also covered the story extensively, with Rashmee Roshan Lall writing in today's Times of India that wider issues of "underlying racism and class envy in British society assumed a darker dimension", as the program's producers have claimed that the show "had hit a nerve that really reflects society at large".

Channel 4 has refused to pull the program, despite receiving 33,000 complaints to date.

The network's Celebrity Big Brother site was also reporting today that Ms Shetty and Ms Goody had "made up" in the house's "Nowhere" room. "I know that what has happened has not been nice for you... and a lot of stuff got said the other day from you and from myself," Ms Goody said.

"I know that," replied Ms Shetty. "I don't think you're racist."

Sorry for the double post, I have more news.

Bob and Jillian from the biggest loser were on that plane

Qantas flight in mid-air drama

February 03, 2007 12:56pm

A QANTAS airliner has suffered a mid-air engine problem forcing it to double back to Sydney airport.

The troubled Qantas 767 plane, loaded with passengers, is yet to reach the airport but a company spokesman has denied it needs to make an emergency landing.

"It is not an emergency landing, but it will be returning to Sydney," the spokesman said.

He also denied reports that an engine on the plane had exploded mid-air.

"No it hasn't exploded at all, so there is an issue with the engine but it hasn't exploded," the spokesman said.

At 12.35pm (AEDT) the plane had not yet landed.

There are also reports the plane was dumping fuel over the Sydney suburb of Frenchs Forest.
I guess they stopped the show now, as we got new trainers I rather have Bob and Jillian

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what happened to Ed last night on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition". I know that he cut his hand really badly, but I was wondering if anyone had more information.

Thanks!

JS Online: Casting director looking to bring real people back to 'The Real World'

Casting director looking to bring real people back to 'The Real World'

MTV's "The Real World" will be in town in early April looking for roommates to join the 20th season of the granddaddy of all "reality" shows.

And supervising casting director Damon Furberg has some good advice for wannabe cast members:

"We don't want to cast people who feel like emulating behavior they've seen on the show, or acting like a particular person that we've already seen is going to help them out.

"I almost immediately tune out when somebody says, 'I'm just like Puck,' " he tells Inside TV & Radio. Puck was the on-camera name of scruffy bike messenger David Rainey, whose disruptive behavior got him kicked off the show in the 1994 San Francisco season.

"Puck was cool," Furberg says. "He was definitely one of the biggest personalities we've had on the show. But we already had Puck on the show. We don't need Puck Jr."

So what is Furberg looking for?

"In the past, we've sort of discouraged people who have entertainment industry-related goals. This time, we're actually looking for some people like that. We're trying to get back a little bit to the roots of the show, getting some people on who come into the house with goals - career goals."

The 18th season is airing at 9 p.m. Wednesdays on MTV. Season 19 is filming in Sydney, Australia, and this set of auditions is designed to fill the house with seven roommates for the 20th season in an as-yet undisclosed location.

Auditions are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 3 - that's a Tuesday - at Rock Bottom Brewery, 740 N. Plankinton Ave. Applicants must be between 18 and 24 and supply a non-returnable picture of themselves and a photo ID.

You also can apply by sending in a 5-minute taped audition, but the deadline is Monday. Details are available at Bunim-Murray Productions.

If want to hear more about "The Real World," check out the complete conversation with Furberg on Inside TV & Radio's podcast at JS Online: Inside TV & Radio Podcast.

I don't know if casting people who already want to be in the entertainment industry is going to bringing "real" people back onto the show. Seems to me that there'd be more characters and drama queens wanting to get their share of camera time.

I agree with you and casting people who are up front about their entertainment industry ambitions isn't really that different than casting people who have those ambitions but aren't currently pursuing them like some of the recent cast members, but if you look back to the early seasons, a lot of the cast members were interested in entertainment. They've always had those types on the shows.

Season 1 had Eric (model), Heather (rapper), Julie (dancer), Andre (band member), Norman, Becky (singer), and Kevin (poet). I don't remember what Norman did and I think Kevin might had had some other job too.

Season 2 was Aaron business student), Jon (country singer), Tami (singer, I think), Glen (band member), Irene (police officer), Beth S (actress), David (comedian), Dominic (writer), and Beth A. I don't remember what Beth A did.

I think I'll stop there because you get my point without making me go through all 18 seasons. Unless you just want to see if I can name every cast member they've ever had.

Did you really do that from memory? Because I can barely name the folks from the last season and no way could I remember what they did for a living. I'll give you a cookie if you really can name everyone from all the seasons without cheating.

That's interesting that so many of the early cast members were already active in the entertainment industry.

Mm, cookies.

I think Road Rules would be harder for me. I might require pizza as a reward.

I also just noticed that I only listed 4 people for Las Vegas. Frank, Irulan, and Alton would complete the group.

Yay! I can't wait! I was hoping it'd be in March like previously announced but June's probably better anyway.
