I think Rachel's main problem is a couple of things:

1) She has PTSD and hasn't really dealt with that mostly because PTSD is associated with soldiers who have been in actual combat... When in reality, it applies to anyone who has been through a traumatic expeience -- And war is TRAUMATIC, not dramatic -- Even if she was a nurse.

I am pretty sure she was what is called a Corpsman (if she was in the army). Meaning, she probably wasn't a real nurse, but just someone who had basic trainning in triage and helped the medics and doctors with the wounded. However, I am sure she saw the reality of the war with boys her age coming in with limbs blown off and worse (due to IEDs -- Improvisded Explosive Devices; roadside bombs) and that will do something to you if that is all you see 24/7, for a year. Plus, this "war" isn't like the movies where the base is a "safe haven" for our troops. They can be attacked by mortars and suicide bombers (remember the attack where the guy blew himself up in the mess hall?) and to constantly live in that state of fear and paranoia is not normal for the human psyche and will cause permanent damage even if soldiers think they are "fine".

2) Part of PSTD is that you become accustomed to "the way things are" and her being in the military and an environment where it is kill or be killed is exactly why she said she wished Nehemiah was dead because that is the environment that she lived in for years (even before the war) and it is almost an automatic response.

This is what I don't like about the military. Having been a military brat myself, I've experienced this kind of mentality first hand. If all you are around is weapons, discipline and a feeling of "you are invincible" and have the power over life and death it DOES go to your head -- And they do this when they train soldiers because if they don't they won't survive on the battlefield -- But when it comes to the real world outside the military this is where a lot of soldiers can't leave it behind and I think Rachel demonstrated this last night in her outbursts.

3) She needs to just sit down with the entire house and talk about what she experienced as this is part of the healing process.

This way, everyone will understand where she is coming from and what she has experienced and possibly be a little more understanding when she gets defensive and says she doesn't want to talk about it (ironically) because I don't think the reality of this war and what is really going on has been explained to this generation (and everyone else for that matter) and war is still this abstract concept we associate with news footage and movies and not a real, tangible thing that people experiecne.

I've talked with Gulf War veterans who are only a few years older than me and you are taken aback when you realize you are talking to someone who was 3000 miles away, in the middle of the desert, shooting at someone who wanted them dead. That reality is something the news can NEVER really demonstrate to the average person and I think this is why MTV did choose Rachel (aside from her drama queen tendencies) because Generation Y/Z is now a war-veteran generation, unfortuntaely, and they are going to have deal with the consequences of what is going on in Iraq just like the Baby Boomers had to deal with the fall out from Vietnam.

Last night I thought that the kiss between Wes and Johanna would have been the focus of the episode but I am glad that it wasnt in a way.

I dont know how Rachel is feeling, but coming from a family with people in the war now I do understand where she is coming from. I think that Nehemiah was wrong in the first place to even come out and say who Rachel should date, kiss, or be around. Its none of his business. If he wants to get 'hooked up' because he knows someone in a club, he shouldnt get mad at someone else because they want to have fun.

No one in the house knows what its like to be in the war and Nehemiah of all of the roommates seems to be the least interested. He's anti-war and I think in a way he takes that out on the people who are in the war. She must have been scared out of her mind being there and even though Nehemiah said that it had to do with her childhood thats only a part of it. Being in the war changes you and it really took a toll on Rachel.

Nehemiah at times impresses me and then he just brings himself to say things that bothers me. Danny was a really great friend in this episode. He can tell whats bothering Rachel deep down and I think out of all the roommates he understands her the most.
