| Mythbusters Is anyone here familiar with Discovery Channel’s show Mythbusters? It is basically just as the title implies, a team of experts test various myths to see which are true, plausible, or impossible. Plausible meaning that while they were not able to duplicate the myth exactly, it is not out of the realm of possibility. There is a certain amount of science involved but they are usually good about making it understandable to those of us who are not so inclined. I think their results are quite interesting and sometimes very surprising. Tonight’s new episode featured a mission to test burglary techniques seen in movies like Entrapment. Two myths included using powder to make lasers visible so you can avoid them and using night goggles for the same purpose. They have also tested less theatrical myths, like which is more efficient, driving with your truck's tailgate down or up, if a helium filled football flies farther than one filled with air, or whether a penny dropped from the top of the Empire State Building could kill a passing pedestrian. Some of their favorite myths to test include explosions - using more than the manufacturer's recommended number of bug bombs can cause your house to explode or catch on fire if an ignition source has not been turned off so always follow the label. | |||
