I'd Do Anything #1: Twelve Nancys, twelve Olivers, one goal.

Twelve Nancys, twelve Olivers, one goal.

Official BBC site.

Graham and Andrew reunite to find new West End talent

Last year, the BBC One audience made a dream come true and shot Lee Mead to stardom in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This year, the BBC is embarking on a talent search once again with a brand-new Saturday night show, I'd Do Anything.

Graham Norton is reunited with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber as Britain's most unlikely small screen double acts teams up again, this time for a double challenge: to find talent for the roles of Nancy and a total of three youthful protégés to play orphaned urchin Oliver in the new Cameron Mackintosh forthcoming West End production of Oliver!, featuring one of the most memorable scores in contemporary musical theatre including Consider Yourself, You've Got To Pick a Pocket, Who Will Buy?, Food, Glorious Food and, of course, I'd Do Anything.

To help viewers choose their Nancy and mentor the hopeful aspiring Olivers, the I'd Do Anything panel is Torchwood star John Barrowman, Broadway and West End leading lady Denise Van Outen and, for the first time, actor, comedian, writer and star of musical theatre Barry Humphries CBE, who has appeared in several productions of Oliver! to great acclaim both in the West End and on Broadway. He created the role of Mr. Sowerberry in the original 1960 London stage production and went on to reprise the role on Broadway. In 1967 he starred as Fagin in the Piccadilly Theatre's revival, and subsequently reprised the role in Cameron Mackintosh's award-winning staging at the London Palladium.

Anyone else watching this?

Yep I'm watching, even though I'm not in the UK, I find it more entertaining then some of the TV on in the US right now

Plus it's got John Barrowman... I'll watch anything with that man in it

Yup, those would pretty much be mine reasons as well.

Do you have any Nancy favourites so far?
I like Jessie, Keisha and Cleo the most for now.

I absolutely love Jessie, she may be young but there is just something that is mesmerizing about her.

There was one other person who I liked but I can't remember who it was.

Is it sad that when I was watching the sing off and listened to Amy perform I was like ALW is going to say something about her tone and how she didn't hit the low notes. And he said it (Yes that just proves I'm a music geek).

Just finished watching last night's episode. Things are getting interesting.
And my favourites are doing well. I so hope Jessie wins! She's great every week.
And I'm starting to like Rachel more and more.

I'm hoping Tara will be voted off this week. I just don't think she has the voice or acting skills for the part.

I can't believe she wasn't in the bottom two last week. I liked Cleo, hated to see her go.

Absolutely!
She has a wonderful stage presence.

I liked the judges a lot more this week, they are finally criticizing more. Someone must have said something to Bill because for the first time he wasn't just praising them.

Just finished the performance episode. I really like Francesca, Sarah and Ashley and all for different reasons. I really love this show. ALW is a terrific judge, I'd totally listen to him, and then to John. Denise...I so rarely agree with her when she's in opposition to John.

And I'd watch anything with JB in it too.

I know I watch anything with John. Can't wait to get home tonight to watch IDA and the Results. It took too long to download it all to watch it last night.

I love Jessie and Francesca though I do tend to agree about her pitch problems at times.

Nicole

ETA: I am thrilled with who got voted off. I thought she should have been out last week. Let me know when you all have seen it so we can talk about it

I find myself agreeing with all the judges at different times. But I don't think I've been completely in agreement with any of them.
I do like how they are trying to give more constructive criticism though. Usually Zoe was the one who did that best last year on ADWD.
I also love when they all try to talk at the same time when they don't agree so Graham has to jump in to calm them.

Francesca was one of my favourites in the start, but I seem to like her less and less every week. I can't explain why, it's just how she pronounces words, like she slurs her words a bit. I just find her diction annoying the more I listen to her.

I'm also disappointed with Keisha the more I see from her. She has fantastic voice, but she's not a good performer.

I'm also thrilled with who got voted off.
Spoiler:
I think she butchered Let's Hear It For The Boy this week, so totally deserved.
Tara was always my least favourite Nancy, I just never saw why they even let her pass the Nancy school.

I know I can't believe they let her through. I know this is rude but I loved how she messed up on her goodbye. I was like Serves you right

Francesca I'm going with ALW on she's got what it takes, but there's that pitch problem creeping on in. That's probably why she's only been Rachel's understudy.

I find myself agreeing with John and ALW, well Barry's a bit skeevy, and probably has a _____ on looking at the women, and Denise I don't know there are times where it seems like she has a clue but other times, I feel like going what planet are you from

I was glad to see her gone, and no it doesn't make you rude that you were glad to see her messed up goodbye. Looking at her is was like she almost didn't agree with the results so that fact she botched the note, justice in my opinion. I wanted her gone weeks ago.

You no, Keisha, she bugs me. She's brilliant in the sing off's, this lovely, rich voice and a great acting style but during performance shows she falls horribly short. I don't get it.

I get what you both are saying about Fran, her pitch isn't perfect but I think that she has more acting talent in her little finger than some of those girls.

Samantha can go home anytime for me. She bores me to tears.

I know I honestly hope Keisha's gone this week. If she's in the sing off again, I just don't see ALW saving her again.

Samantha is also starting to get on my nerves as well. She has this I feel like I'm better than you attitude and it comes off as snobbish.

I'm actually looking forward to this weeks ep

I am too. I hated Sam's rendition of the West Side Story song. I thought it was awful. I'm also looking forward to seeing ALW on American Idol on Tuesday too...double dose of the musical man.

Ohh I forgot that this coming week was ALW on AI.

I wonder what type of music the ladies will be singing this week?

Uhh I want to smack ALW. All I'm saying is the gal butchered Whistle Down the Wind and it wasn't the one who got kicked off.

I must say - surprising sing off.
I was surprised Keisha wasn't in the bottom two.
I'm not surprised that ALW sided with the panel though (nor do I mind). He wasn't in the studio, and judging by the comments every week things sound different there sometimes. Plus, he kept repeating about her pitch problems every week and said how it's making him nervous [to watch her sing].
I guess pitch problems annoy him more than a boring voice.
I bet this will shake things up a bit, and show everyone how everyone can go home at any time.

It was cool to see them on stage after Wicked.
