High School Reunion (The WB)

It's Baaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkk

The season premiere is at 9/8c PM tonight, 3/14/04, in case anyone is interested.

I thought the original one that premiered last year with the class of 1991-92, was pretty boring...

BUT I'm willing to give this class (1994-995) a chance because it's obvious they chose the most volitile personalities they could find this time that are bound to (hopefully) be more interesting conflicts and drama.

I thought the first episode wasn't that bad.

I like how they did a twist at the end and revealed that Denise maybe wasn't the "innocent" that they built her up the entire episode and that she may have in fact manipulated Gabe all those years by lying about being pregnant just to "win" him from all his simoltaneous girlfriends.

It's interesting that they are openly mixing various classes (from '92 to '95) which I think will make it much more interesting than the first season because that gives them more chances to draw conflict and drama than from just one class AND it allows people who graduated in that range to not feel "left out" in terms of viewership (because when you do a show like this you run the risk of ONLY appealing to whom gradutaed that year; this is a very clever way around that).

I'm going to follow it -- much more than last season -- And see where it goes.

I think the surprise proposal is going to be LouAnn and Johnny because there is no other reason he'd want to come to this reunion (considering his class is '92 and the rest of the cast is '94-95) than to propose. At least that what I'm guessing

Me and my husband were in the middle of a Roswell Season 1 marathon (We just bought it on DVD) and I turned it off to watch it... I LLOOVVEEDD it! I also think that Luann and Johnny will be the suprise proposal... or possibly Denise *n* Gabe getting back together... that would be the CUTEST!!!

I thought TJ was real outta line.. I mean, c*mon... its 2004... gay people are everywhere, television and otherwise, I though more people would have more of an open-minded way of thinking.. I mean, I could understand him being uncomfortable.. thats how guys think.. but he barely said 2 words to.. Daniel, I think the whole time. He could have at least explained himself... that was just plain RUDE!!!

I felt bad for... oh god, I*m terrible with names... Larry??(the geek) I mean, I woulda at least tried to initiate conversation with him... no one talked to him... I felt so bad for him... but I guess its funny how even after that long... the cliques still exist.

I hated those 3 girls comin in... cause I was already on board with the hope of Gabe and Denise getting back together.. maybe because I*m married to my high school sweetheart, and if we did get divorced, god forbid, and we had the chance to possibly rekindle things.. I would MURDER the bitch that got in my way!!! But... who knows whats gonna happen.. I can*t wait til next week...

I was a little confuse though.. are they going to replay this episode on Tuesday, or is there gonna be a new one?? I didn*t think they were too clear on that... or maybe I just wasn*t paying enough attention... Glad to know I got someone out there that shares my new-found love for the show

The thing you have to keep in mind is that this in fact a reality show -- And that term is loosely becoming "scripted drama" -- So, the stuff between TJ and Daniel may in fact be exaggerated due to editing and what the producers tell those two to act around one another as well.

I'm not saying TJ is comfortable with Gays and is only "acting" his part on camera... But I think even his actions (reactions) to Daniel are to over-the-top even for a so-called "redneck" like him.

At least HSR doesn't shy away from the fact that they are using the cliches/acrchetypes that most reality shows have: The jock, the gay guy, the princess, etc.

What I think is cool about HSR is that they've basically taken the best bits that you can draw upon from scripted drama and are using those to make this season much, much more interesting than last.

We've got the rekindling of a lost loves (Denise & Gabe; LouAnn and Johnny); the fact that Denise may or may not be a b*tch and may have manipulated everyone to win Gabe; The outcast who is looking for acceptance; The gay/straight conflict, etc. This is like "the best of the best" as far as romantic comedies, dramas and other genres mixed together, so hopefully, it should be a fun season

Okay, Can I just say that sometimes you really need to let things go. And in this case I am talking about the three girls that are coming back for Gabe. The fact that they could actually come back and on purpose to destroy a relationship that’s just foul. Yes, everyone has their heart broken but, you have to realize that sometimes you are not suppose to get the guy or the girl. Let’s be honest here, Gabe and Denise had to know that the other one would attend this reunion, they have kids together. I actually think that they want to work things out because, if they did not one of them would not be here. I do wish that we knew how long Gabe and Denise have been divorce?

On a different note I did like the show, too bad that they did not do some type of reunion with the first cast to see what is going on with them.

Love,

Remedy

You'll be happy to know that on the official WB board for this show...

A lot of fans are appauled at the blatant manipulation of feelings of both Gabe and Denise and consider this "trash TV" that goes beyond bad taste -- Even for reality TV.

I agree.

As fun as these shows are to watch... What we have here is something that is NOT really funny to mess around with AND the fact that their kids WILL see this and if it turns out bad (Gabe chooses one of his old girlfriends instead of Denise) that's just cruel to the kids to watch that... And they WILL find out even if they are forbidden to watch (I assume they are probably only 10-11 years old).

It would be a "perfect" show without this sleazy addition to it.

I watched this last night, they played a rerun. Seems like it'll be interesting. I hated how Gabe arrived and hugged everyone, even people he didn't remember, yet didn't acknowledge his ex-wife. Maybe they can work things out, but it seems Denise wants it way more.

Too bad Luann has a boyfriend back home. She seemed so happy to see Johnny. I'm already annoyed with the 3 younger girls they brought back. I feel bad for the loner guy. If he was treated like an outcast in high school, he's gonna be treated the same at a reunion. People don't change that much.

The gay guy is going out of his way to make people uncomfortable. So you're gay, do you have to shove it down everyone's throat? No pun intended.

True that true that. Those 3 annoyed me from the second they showed up. What happened to live and let live? It's been 10 years? Don't they have men at home? Thats not real if they waited 10 years for Gabe. That's just sad.

I actually don't think it's about Gabe at all I think its about getting even with Denise. From articles I've read and previews for this season Denise and her cronies did some extremely cruel things to these girls. I know many people who barely remember their HS sweethearts but remember vividly every cruel thing that was done to them by others. So it's really a revenge thing not a residual feelings thing. Personally I think looking good is the best revenge and these 3 do look good. For everyone who's being so hard on the 3 new comers do you forget Denise faked a pregnancy to get a handsome young guy with potential to marry her?

I don't think that there should be any seduction going on between Gabe and the three girls. The man has children with Denise so if it does come down to a selection between these three girls that can't get over things that may or may not have happened to them in high school or the mother of his two children, I think he should have enough common decensy to shack it back up with his ex just for his children's sake.

I really hated how they left so many of the people in the background, like the Wallflower and the Teen Mom. This was all focused on the cheerleaders and the jocks - when I think a pilot should actually be more of an introduction to the whole cast.

But I'm definitely going to keep watching because this show looks interesting. And I think Laura is a hoot.

Well I don't about that, maybe if they go into more detail lateer on. But even with a fake pregnancy Gabe still decided to be with her.

I don't think they should get back together just because they have kids but they should be civil to each other. If there is the chance that they could get back together then I say go for it but they shouldn't have to. If they are on the verge of reconciliation they I say leave them be there are other ways for the 3 bimbos to get back at her than to steal her baby's daddy. I say think of the children what I mean is don't try and make them hate one another its not good if ex's with children hate each other. They should get along without being together.

I sort of agree with that, but if it comes down to Gabe choosing between Heather and Denise, which is going to happen, he needs to pick Denise. He chose her once and established a life with her and to throw all that away for something that happened 10 years ago is just wrong. Besides, I think Denise is genuine and I really respect her for taking the first step and having enough audacity to approach Heather knowing the things they were saying behind her back. Heather may be complaining about Denise masquerading around acting like nothing is wrong, but at least Denise got the dice up in the air. If Heather has a problem and is still stuck in the past, she needs to approach Denise and tell her what's bothering her straight away. It's one thing to be bothered by things that happened to you ten years ago, and it's still ok to discuss them respectfully, in hopes of finding absolution. But blowing it up in privacy and dancing around the subject waiting for someone else to bring it up is just wrong. Whatever happened needs to be addressed, or else Heather should just stop bitching.

I think that Louann needs to stay away from "The Quarterback" because she has ties at home. I understand that old love never dies, but what she said was right - something over the course of two weeks shouldn't take precedence over a relationship established over three years.

I wanna see more with Lenny - he's funny. I'm not intersted with this whole "Redneck"/"Gay Guy" controversy. I can't help but agree with "Redneck". It's one thing to be homosexual, but if he expects to be treated equally without biasness and judgment he should quit flaunting it so much. I know I may sound close-minded, but it is the truth. If he expects people to keep their mouths closed and judge him kindly with the way he is acting, he is straight trippin' (pardon the pun). I would be uncomfortable if I was having to bunk with him too. I wouldn't have moved out, but I wouldn't be at ease either.

Ok - that's just my take on this evening's episode.

After watching last night I just want to say that I seriously love Louann she called Heather out on everything. My favorite line from Louann was Maybe he didn’t care about you. The look on Heather’s face was priceless. I am also proud of Denise for laughing off Heather, as she stated her relationship with Gabe is different from their relationship.

As for the miscarried situation, I can not say it is true or not. For all we know one of the three girls could have passed the word around to get a rise out of Denise. Again, I can not comment on it because it is more of a he say then anything.

I am sick of the whole Redneck vs. Gay Guy though. Yes, there are still people who agree with TJ and not a trip to Hawaii is going to change that. Why waste energy on this?
