MTV Music Group To Take Exclusive Second Window for the Show

Grammy Award-winning pop icon Britney Spears and husband Kevin Federline have reached an agreement with UPN to broadcast a new television series that shares their personal love story through exclusive, never-before-seen private home videos they shot themselves during their courtship, engagement and wedding. The series will include six episodes to be broadcast on UPN later this season it was announced today by Dawn Ostroff, President, UPN.

This fun, uniquely personal series, shot mostly by Britney and Kevin with their own camera, will give viewers a rare glimpse inside the couple's relationship and life together. The footage begins shortly after Britney and Kevin first met in Los Angeles and headed off to Europe together on tour, leading up to and including their wedding day. UPN is also shooting new footage and commentary with Britney and Kevin that will guide viewers through their story. The show will have an exclusive second window on MTV Music Group channels.

Britney stated, "I am so excited about the series. From the day that Kevin and I met, there have been constant rumors and inaccurate speculation about our lives together. I feel that last year the tabloids ran my life and I am really excited about showing my fans what really happened rather than all the stories which have been misconstrued by journalists in the past. As I mentioned before on my website, I am now going to be expressing my personal life through art. This series will show us falling in love and all the adventures that went on overseas during the European leg of my Onyx Hotel tour. It's going to be an exciting ride." Kevin feels this project will speak for itself. Simply put: "It is a documentation of love."

"Britney Spears is a superstar who is very popular with UPN's viewers, making her and Kevin's show in this format a perfect fit for our network's audience and programming sensibilities," said Ostroff. "As we all know, Britney and Kevin's life together has been played out in front of the public through Internet speculation, the gossip columnists and entertainment magazines, but now, for the first time, their millions of fans will get to see and hear the couple's real story on UPN as told directly by them."

"From her cutting edge videos to her multi-platinum albums, Britney has been a dynamic force in the music industry, MTV and VH1, and we are excited to partner with her on this special project," said Brian Graden, President of Entertainment, MTV Music Group and President of LOGO.

The deal includes repeat broadcasts of the series on MTV and/or VH1 music channels, which will run after the initial UPN broadcast. In addition, leading into the big finale on UPN, the MTV Music Group channels will run a marathon of the already televised episodes.

UPN has had incredible success with the reality genre and is home to several high-quality brands, including AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL and THE ROAD TO STARDOM WITH MISSY ELLIOTT. AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL has emerged as the most popular series in UPN history with young adults and women. Currently in its fourth cycle, AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL ranks first in its time period among women 18-34.

I won't lie, I'll def be watching. But this ranks just below the Lil' Kim reality series and slightly above the Bobby Brown one.

Oh well. gotta love that reality tv.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I will be watching. I dont understand why it's on UPN. Why not just MTV? I'm anxious to see how Britney will explain proposing to herself and buying her own ring.

I'll watch.

That's what I was wondering. MTV is her audience. UPN is kind of the bottom of the television channel barrel.

The reason something like this is on UPN and not just MTV is stuff the article didn't say:

MTV is a division of Viacom and Viacom owns both UPN and Paramount Pictures (UPN being a subsidiary of Paramount) which owns a lot of cable outlets as mentioned. They figure that they can not only double the exposure and possible ratings, but also the profit to be made from re-selling the show and broadcast rights to Viacom's own subsidiaries (UPN and MTV). How mercenary can you get?

BTW... UPN is trying to change their image for Fall 2005. They are getting rid of Smackdown! and trying to rebuild their network to appeal to not just African-Americans and Trekkies, but a wider audience. This is why Veronica Mars -- The low-rated, but critical darling -- Is going to probably be their flagship drama with ANTM the flagship reality series as well as a number of other dramas that are going to be premiering next fall like "Triangle" with Ivan Sergi about a man searching for his wife in the Bermuda Triangle and other shows.

I heard on the news yesterday that this show could be used to try to boost Kevin's upcoming rap career. Take a wild guess at who he compares himself too.

I don't know if I'll waste my time watching or not. Maybe just the first couple eps out of curiousity, but honestly, I am kind of sick of Brtiney and have been since her slave 4 u crap. I keep wondering what the heck happened. But I do wish her happiness and more sense.

I think its going to be crap tv, but of course there will be people out there who love this stuff. I have so little respect for Britney and think she is just trashy, so I won't be watching this one.
