According to the article, he thought he would just go, drop off his son, and leave, and be able to come back because he didn’t socialize with anyone. But the “traveling” part makes it harder because he still could have come in contact with something while he was traveling.

No, Chris wasn’t fired. He just left the set to go drop his son off at college, and they wouldn’t let him film again when he came back until he had been quarantined. JoJo filled in for him for a few days.
