Australian Big Brother 7 In 07 #1 - Gets Clean or Will It?

Quote:
Big Brother 7 to clean up it's act

‘No naughty bits please, we’re prudish.’

Well, you wouldn’t hear the Ten Network actually mouthing those words about Big Brother which is returning for Series Seven next year.

It might be more along the lines of "BB is a great way of accessing difficult to reach younger viewers by using digital platforms and broadcast media".

In short there’s a big buck in it and its proving to be a goldmine for the network and its producers.

But unlike the past couple of years when Ten ran into trouble from some publicity-seeking politicians who took aim at the Uncut and AO episodes of Big brother (with its post 9.30 pm content), Ten is looking for a smoother year next year.

The Uncut stuff is out and Ten will rely on the usual collection of contrived nastiness, outrageous characters in search of a post-show gig or fame, and Gretel Killeen, to sell BB for 2007.

There will still be the Sunday and Monday night set pieces, the one-off intruders (or whatever they will be called) and all the other tricks.

There will be fines, punishments and more tripe spoken by the Housemates than you’d find in a French restaurant.

Ten and its partners, Endermol Southern Star, have learned their lesson from the past two years of running naughty programs after 9.30 pm based on Big Brother.

It made the Network a target for attention seeking politicians of the sort like Trish Draper, Liberal South Australia and the Queensland National party MHR, Paul Neville.

They both got into Ten over its AO post 9.30 program this year which Ten abandoned around a week early to shut down the criticism. There were similar criticisms of the Uncut program in 2005.

Apart form the controversy about the AO program and the 'turkey slapping" Big brother had a big year in 2006.

Ratings were on the hole either equal to or higher for the program which will return with a similar line-up as this year: a half hour 7 pm strip Monday to Friday, a Friday night program, late night programs after around 11 pm and running through into the early hours of the next day and the centre piece Sunday and Monday programs.

There will also be the usual one off specials of 'intruders' etc and other tricks to maintain interest.

And with Ten lifting its website and internet game next month, the Big Brother website will integrated with Ten's digital platform and be a more recognisable brand for the network to market.

So that’s why you can look for a larger internet-based component in the BB program next year

The website content will continue to be classified with nothing exceeding MA15. MA rated content has always only featured as part of the premium site, restricted access to people over the age of 18 for which a credit card is needed to sign up. Credit cards are only issued to people
18 or over.

Ten CEO, Grant Blackley and Southern Star boss, Hugh Marks both pointed to the internet and new media (which is a major part of its appeal as a way of reach 16 to 39s) appeal of Big Brother.

Internet ratings service, Hitwise Australia, ranked /Big Brother /as Australia's number one TV program website every month while the series was on air this year.

More than 210 million pages were read (up from 170 million last year) and at least 1.1 million unique browsers visited the site each month, with 1.45 million in July alone.

More than 640,000 people registered to become members of the website, downloading more than 10 million streams.

Meanwhile, '3' mobile customers accessed more than 3.5 million live streams, at an average of 9.3 minutes each.

With that sort activity bringing it back and modifying it to accommodate critical politicians made good commercial sense.
I had to use that title sorry

I'm looking forward to seeing the new BB this year

edited. - I just had a thought
Spoiler:
After seeing the new tv ad on ch10, I'm thinking we have to vote someone or 2 people out of the house on the first night

Starts 22nd April, 14 Housemates.

Rumour that the house is going 'green' ie environmentally friendly.
I do know that QLD is in stage 5 water restrictions, to which the housemates have to abide by.

are the ads saying that the house is going to be more multicultural this year??? and that BB is going to be nastier and take something away... not real sure what that could be? its not like they get much in the way of food, etc...

I don't know but I found this news.

BB picks OCD contestant

By Marcus Casey

Article from: The Daily Telegraph

MENTAL health experts will closely study how a Big Brother housemate suffering mild obsessive compulsive disorder is treated when the new series begins later this month.

Producers have revealed one of the contestants has the disorder but have not indicated how the person and their disorder will be portrayed.

Clinical psychologist Rocco Crino, of the Anxiety Disorder Alliance, said the person should not be exploited by the program or teased.

"If it is mild OCD and there are no problems for the individual then that's fine," he said yesterday.

"It may be that the condition is not obvious, we'll have to have a good look at it. It will really depend on how the program will portray and treats the person."

Host Gretel Killeen said she was surprised the unknown housemate's condition had been revealed, but said the show always tried to reflect society.

"I guess it's to show diversity and try and represent society to some degree because the house is a microcosm," she said yesterday.

"But I need to find out more about this obsessive compulsive disorder before the show starts.

"I don't know what the parameters are because I know a lot of people who would refer to themselves as that, but have not been diagnosed."

Killeen also said she felt the show was victim of a vocal "minority" last year over the "turkey slapping" incident and others which led to a review of the television industry's code of conduct.

Producers have acknowledged the climate has changed and will tone down the controversial series - including axing the weekly Uncut adults-only version.
Wow....

Who knows how long this'll be up before they make them take it down, but someone manged to find pics of the housemates on the 3Mobile site, and they're posted here. So much for them being "more worldly" and different to the posers we usually end up with. I'll still be watching on Sunday to see just how horrible they are, though.

Oh wow. Watching it last night did anyone see what they're doing with the extra people in the white room? How the last person in there gets to go in the big brother house?

They're always goin on about how they've got an Australian BB first. But they're full of crap. It's just another dumb idea, one after the other. Definetly not a first. <.<

Hmm...I agree that the amount of blondes are annoying and confusing, but I have to disagree with you guys here: I like both the relationship twist and the white room concept, and I think all-in-all the HMs this year are more mature and 'wordly' (Christ I hate that term) than in the last two years.

And aren't there only two models in the house? Bodie was an underwear model and Travis was a "model" as a kid. I thought that was it. Granted, most of them are really pretty, but I don't think that should be held against them.

Thomas is HOT. I'll get it out there now. That man is yummy. My favorites are him, Alysha and Travis atm. Kate and TJ both need a good slap in the face.

I can't wait till tonight's show when Andrew and Hayley is outted for being a couple and Billy is revealed as being Hayley's ex. I really would like to see the drama when it does happen.
