I'll bring over my last post from the last thread:

I think axing the show is bloody ridiculous. Obviously the sexual content needed to be cut down (especially in regards to last year's series and what they broadcast), and for those reasons alone I'm not too fussed about them cancelling Adults Only. But now that AO is gone, I don't see where the problem lies. The Ash/John/Camilla incident was never aired on national television (excluding what Channels 7 & 9 are showing in their news). If the show has no intention to air inappropriate material, then where is the problem?

I just watched Gretel's interview with John and Ashley on YouTube. It doesn't change my opinion on the incident. Yes, what happened was a joke that got out of hand, but that doesn't mean that what they did to Camilla was not right. I'm glad they apologized, though. That was what I was really looking for.

Update

Quote:
BIG BROTHER may have overstepped the line but the truth is a lack of up-to-date rules means little can be done to rein in the reality show.

The media watchdog, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, cannot get its teeth into the program, whose latest breach did not occur on TV but on live internet footage that went out at 4.17am last Saturday. The authority's powers are limited to TV and radio broadcasts and stored internet content.

The live web footage that streamed out of the Big Brother house featured the alleged sexual assault of a female housemate. Acting on it was not in the watchdog's bailiwick, nor anyone else's, a spokesman for the authority conceded yesterday. And even if it had been screened on TV, disciplining Network Ten would have been "a convoluted" process requiring viewer complaints and an investigation.

As the network stood by its program, the Prime Minister, John Howard, labelled the show stupid and called for Ten to axe it. "It is just a question of good taste and I don't like heavy-handed regulation," he said.

"The business community is always saying to me 'let us self-regulate'. Well here's a great opportunity for Channel Ten to do a bit of self-regulation and get this stupid program off the air."

Ten's head of production and development, Tim Clucas, said that not only would the series continue but another was being planned for next year.

The show threw its critics into apoplexy when the internet footage appeared to show Michael Cox, 20, rubbing his crotch in the face of Camilla Halliwell, 22, while Michael Bric, 21, held her. The police were notified but decided to take no action.

Ms Halliwell told viewers: "We laughed it off. As soon as I said 'enough's enough' it stopped."

The men were booted off the show for breaching the Big Brother rule "about respecting each other", Mr Clucas said.

The footage was not aired on TV and never would be. People needed to differentiate between the show and the house. "This was a bit of fun that went too far."

Although Ten took the incident seriously enough to evict the two housemates, in a last-minute interview screened at 9.45pm, host Gretel Killeen blamed the media for beating up the story.

"It's not our intention to sensationalise," she said, before interviewing the evicted housemates. The pair told her they had not meant to hurt or offend Ms Halliwell. They had only been "mucking around". They said they were respectful of women and the incident was a practical joke gone sour.

"We only intended to have a bit of fun with Camilla," said Bric, known on the program as John. The pair said they were having a lot of mixed emotions. "If we could turn back time we obviously wouldn't do it," Bric added.

The Labor leader, Kim Beazley, has stepped up his calls for the show to be axed. "As a dad, I don't like seeing young women treated that way."

The Communications Minister, Helen Coonan, was furious that Ms Halliwell was paraded on Sunday night's episode apologising to the two men. "It is very regrettable that Camilla was made to cry and made to feel that she had done the wrong thing and somehow or other was responsible for these guys getting evicted," she said.

Senator Coonan said the show's constant sexual advances towards women "ruthlessly reinforce the kind of notion that women are objects".

The Democrats senator Andrew Bartlett was a lone voice of dissent, saying politicians had no place trying to ban a "lame television show".

"If anyone in the Big Brother house broke the law then it can be dealt with by the legal system. Attempting to force a television show off the air because of an incident that wasn't even screened is an excessive intrusion into the lives of Australians by moralising, preaching politicians."

The show is staying but the Gov wants to axed it still. *sighs*

Edited again**

I have no clue if this is true *shrugs*

the real story

Official reports from the BB compound in Queensland have confirmed that BB will be allowing the public to vote in two housemates from pervious series of BB only! That means people from BB 1,2,3,4,5 will be able to enter the house until the end with no eviction but cannot win the final prize. However we only have a select few to choose from. Most people from pervious series don't want to enter the house and therefore the public cannot choose whoever we like.

Reports that people from this season of BB could enter the house again are false because it wouldn't make interesting tv as we already know how they act with the current housemates.

Among the few who the public can choose are BB3 winner Reggie, BB5 Vesna, BB2 Jessica, BB1 Sara-Marie plus more.

They arent axing the show.
The Producers are already Planning for BB7.

Quote:
Channel 10 production head Tim Clucas has told the Sydney Morning Herald that production of Big Brother will continue.

He told the newspaper that Big Brother 7 was already being planned.

The announcement comes despite political pressure to end the show. Opposition leader Kim Beazley recently recommended to Channel 10 to end the show after the 2006 season.

The Prime Minister John Howard wanted the show axed immediately, calling it "stupid".

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie wants the show to continue, but to clean up the sexual content. The production of Big Brother creates a large number of job openings for the state.

News Limited papers recently reported that as long as ratings stay strong, Big Brother will continue. Both Sunday daily show and eviction saw a significant boost in ratings after newspapers broke the incident story.

The show was never going to be axed. Like I said in my last post, and what the article pointed out, Channel 10 never aired the footage, nor did they have any intention too, so there could be no grounds for cancelling the program. Glad to see my thoughts were solidified, though.

Anyway. Johnny Howard can kiss my ass.

I saw a bit of tonight's daily show; was that a Channel 7 helicopter flying above the house? Honestly. I felt so sorry for Camilla, I can only imagine how she must have been feeling.

The media is one thing, but the government? That's where I get lost. Don't they have anything better to discuss? Sheesh.

Could not agree more.
Don't our hospitals need more beds and people need encouragement to look for work. I think Polli's need to focus on more crucial things!

Man Perry is really getting on my nerves!!
Seems like she is annoying David too. They have been getting stuck into each other lately!
I really hope she goes on Sunday night!

Oh, I saw that a while ago, when they interviewed the person on Channel 9. The guy said something about Michael thinking he was better than everyone else in the nightclub

Perry is definitely getting on nerves. I just hate the way that everytime anyone is upset, she has to go to them and annoy them. Can't she just leave them in peace. David's getting on my nerves too, especially always going on about the game.

Man threatened to blow up Big Brother
A Canberra man threatened to blow up the Big Brother house unless the reality TV show was taken off the air, a court has been told.

William Thomas Kempthorn, 34, issued the threat via email on Tuesday, days after the program had become embroiled in allegations two male contestants had sexually assaulted a female contestant, the court heard.

He was arrested by federal police on Thursday night and appeared in Canberra Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

"If Channel Ten does not take Big Brother off the air I will plant a bomb," Kempthorn wrote in the email which was read to the court.

He then went on to place a string of bomb threats against major organisations and transport infrastructure across the ACT and NSW.

Sydney's Central and Kings Cross railway stations were named by Kempthorn as bombing targets.

So were channels 10 and 9 in Sydney, Sydney airport, Parramatta's Westfield shopping centre, a Canberra cinema complex, an ACT government building and Canberra's public bus service.

Canberra police took the threats so seriously they were preparing to place guards at bus interchanges throughout the city, Constable Anthony Brown told the court.

Bail was opposed by police who said they believed Kempthorn would reoffend.

Const Brown said Kempthorn had told police "he felt bad after each of these incidents but he continued to commit the offences".

He is charged under federal law with nine counts of "using a carriage service" for a hoax threat.

Kempthorn was refused bail and ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination at the Canberra Hospital.
