Xander has always been like the overly protective older brother to Willow. The scene at the beginning of When She Was Bad of their moment was Xander feeling like he doesn't have much options because when his senses were heightened in The Pack, he didn't pay very much attention to Willow. He sensed that she liked him, but since he had no romantic feelings toward her, he acted like a complete jerk towards her. Plus he was sexually aggressive towards Buffy in that episode. He preferred the she mantis over Willow. Plus everything that happened in Season 2 with his constant pattern of preferring other women over her as a romantic partner.

^ Xander clearly only noticed Willow when someone else did so he clearly never fell in love with her. It was one of those things of wanting what you can't have.

I agree. He preferred demons and Cordelia (who used to make Willow's life a living hell, which is one of the reasons I still don't like her and Xander together. Ultimate middle finger to Willow SMH) over Willow. Plus, his hypocrisy when he started to b*tch and moan about Oz liking Willow. STFU Xander, I couldn't stand him in S2 and 3 but he was the worst in S2.

He did like the attention & it's not great... but it is what teenagers are like. Even some adults are like that, where they just like the ego boost & don't want someone to move on from them, even though they don't actually want to be with them.

It is such a good & pivotal scene! & I love how love saves the day, but it's also a platonic love, shows that that kind of love can be just as powerful as the romantic kind
