Probably because the X/C relationship always "appeared" as a less complex one that was great for humour.

Hm well I suppose I see what you mean but I was much more inclined to believe that the feelings between X/C were much more mutual than those between B/R. I mean I don't really wanna get into this b/c B/R is a totally separate thing from this thread but S2 and even some of S3 convinced me that X/C was close to being the real thing. Cordy loved him and there were definite moments where you could see how he felt about her too. That's why the thing with Willow really bothered me, it just came totally out of left-field imo

he thought she was gonna die and suddenly it makes him realize she's more than a friend to him when he'd been assuring everyone that wasn't the case? I didn't buy it. And why I love episodes like The Prom is b/c it reminded people of the history between X/C and that he still cared for her enough to give her that one special night even though he couldn't be with her

I just never felt that Buffy appreciated Riley to that much of an extent and only realized too late that she should have. But yeah I agree about the humour in X/C, and I think that worked b/c it gave them more of an interesting dynamic from day one.

I agree that X/C had many layers but Joss and Co. always portrayed them as the humour for the show

Yeah I agree with that

and it's why X/A never really got to me, it just seemed like a carbon copy of that. I think that relationship got more interesting later on in the show, whereas he and Cordy had that love/hate spark since the beginning.

That bugged me as well. They simple took X/C and gave it more depth in the form of X/A. I could never get into it.

I completely agree, and I've always said this. Anya herself was always just a lesser version of Cordy and the relationship tried too hard to have the banter X/C had, but it always lacked the chemistry and as a result seemed force and "off" in my eyes.

X/C - my BTVS OTP.

I don't think Xanya had banter... well, not post-S4 anyway. They're usually more "Oooh Xander and I did this thing with Lush products at..." "Anya! That's private!"

They don't insult each other at all, like Xander/Cordelia. Xanya is cute and funny, but lacks the fire and hotness of Xandelia.

The reason why I ship Cordelia/Xander is simple: it just fits. Both characters were much more enjoyable to watch when they were around each other. Cordelia wasn't the bitch anymore; she had a softer side that humanized her and made me feel for her more. We got to see how vulnerable she could be because she was in love with him. I've never claimed to be a huge fan of Xander's, but I love him in that relationship (well, until everything with Willow starts). I also adore the fact that it's a story about first love. A part of me knows that Cordelia would never take Xander back because of what he did to her, but I honestly believe that there were moments when she would have given in because he was her first love.

The Cordelia/Xander relationship is a beautiful story about first love. It proves that yes, sometimes opposites do attract. But throughout the series, more and more similarities were drawn between the two characters: they were both seeking something more, and they found that in each other.
