I was discussing Willow with someone on Twitter earlier and we both agreed that our least favourite season for Willow was S6. To be fair, everyone except Buffy herself and Tara needed a good slap at some point in that season.

When you think of it, there were hints about Willow's dependence on and possible addiction to magic as early as S3. It was a slow burner of a plot, her descent in to complete darkness was really no surprise when you look back, the signs were there. Take the love spell she was going to perform in Lovers Walk, even then she was attempting to use magic to fix things to her liking, and she had no intention of telling Xander what she was going to do. Just like she didn't tell Tara about the memory spells or Buffy about the spell that went wrong in Tabula Rasa. She had to crash and burn eventually. Dark Willow wasn't purely as a result of Tara's death, that was a catalyst for something that had been brewing for a long time.

Most of that trails back to Willow being insecure and still being hurt about being bullied/left behind by others. I mean, look how many people leave her in her life. Her parents were never really there, Buffy leaves in Season 2, Oz leaves in Season 4, Tara leaves in Season 6.

Oh I absolutely agree, I didn't mean that I was blaming her at all. What happened to her was in many ways understandable. I always think back to Gingerbread and her mother not even realizing she'd had her hair cut for over a year. How can you be that ignorant of your own child? So sad.
