Plus, I couldn't see him opening up to Wesley in that same way, he trusted Fred

It was, Spike had his defenses up all ep, it was great to see them come down & she took him seriously straight away

^ And it was pretty big of Spike to reveal all his feelings so quickly to Fred in that moment. It showed the inner pain he was going through and to tell Fred that.

Spike saying he's terrified is big.

Oh definitely, can't think of many other times when that happened! & especially with someone who was basically a stranger to him!

Yup! Only other time I remember him talking about being terrified was when he was with Buffy so for him to already have that trust in Fred.

They did, I can't remember what ep it was but there was a scene where Spike was giving up & she got really passionate about it, saying "I will find a way to bring you back", it could have been a beautiful set up for a relationship if that's the way the writers wanted to take it
