Good point, he should have known! I don't think he really minded when she was driving her price up though

Agree... Cordy was already hurting so her pain would have been intensified if she realized Doyle's love for her. |

It would have been that much harder for her to move on from
& I agree that they never gave Wesley a real chance, I do think that if he had been Buffy's watcher from the beginning though that she wouldn't have done as well with him.... __________________

I loved that Parting Gifts mentioned him in a great way, it was like his presence was still felt. |

It did, & I think it helped the audience adjust too, his death was just so sudden and shocking.

I'm sorry I missed the "Parting Gifts" re-watch. I always enjoy that ep.
I do really feel for Cordy in this episode. But I love her characterization. She has so much range in this episode. We get to laugh at her when she's funny, cheer for her when she's badass and cry for her when she's grieving. I don't believe Cordy was IN LOVE with Doyle when he was alive, I just think her feelings for him were just developing into romance. But I do believe those feelings would have turned into true love if given more time with him, and the fact that she didn't get to while he was alive was another thing that made his death all the more sad. Having said that, I do think Cordy loved him after he died. Her touched reaction when Skip tells her Doyle loved her, and the fact that she takes time to remember him and watch his video in "You're Welcome" is proof of that. Cordy seems to really like Slap-Slap-Kiss relationship partners. Her bickering with Xander was a form of flirtation that was pretty much mutual between them. Her bickering with Doyle was meant to be the same from her perspective, but there were occasional times where Doyle seemed genuinely hurt by it ("weasel") and probably took it as a sign that she didn't like him. Even though Angel and Cordy never got to be together, Angel did know Cordy cared for him, and Cordy did know Angel cared for her. But I think Cordy's big fear in this ep is that Doyle didn't know she cared for him due to the fact that she didn't let her walls down, and now she would never get to tell him just how much she cared for him. Of course Wesley comes in to fill Doyle's shoes. The fact that Wesley could be able to come in and fill in the shoes of the beloved Doyle is a credit to Alexis Denisof's ability that he could take a character who was so unlikeable on BtVS and make him much more sympathetic and likeable enough to join in the space of one episode. I agree that while Wesley was very arrogant in BtVS S3, the way the Scoobies (save for Cordelia of course) treated him was bad. He was a victim of the Council and was only doing what he had been taught was best. He was wrong of course, but he didn't really know any better. Giles, the older, more experienced watcher, should have had more patience with him. I heard that they considered bringing Doyle back in S4 as a Big Bad alongside Evil!Cordy? Of course nothing came out of it due to Glenn's death and, from what I heard, they were only considering it, but I'm glad it didn't happen. I really wouldn't have liked that. |
