I hear you, it was more the potential of what they could bring to the fight in Sunnydale in Season 7, and Travers finally grew a spine before being killed. It was sad.

I could see that happening, but I think it was a bit too far into the show for them to really be redeemed

And it did serve the purpose of showing just how sinister the First Evil was. But back to my original point, Joss seemed to hate Watchers. Either that or he like them too much, wanted to see them suffer.

I think it goes back to Joss' dislike of parents and parental figures honestly. If you think about it, there's really not a single truly good display of parenting in a lot of the show. Joyce has her moments, but she also has moments where she wasn't the greatest
