Personally, I think that Buffy/Giles was THE most important relationship of the entire show.
Look at what happened to Buffy when Giles left. (I don't want to talk about season 7. To me that was the season the show "jumped the shark" and there were just character assassinations left, right and centre.)  |

I agree, season 7 just didn't make sense to me at all...so yes, probably best not to go there.
I don't think I could ever choose one relationship as the best, but it was definitely one of them!  __________________
