I know! I wish we could've at least got 13 episodes of him in Season 4 with a better closure.

Definitely, it all just fell apart in one ep - although I would have hated to see the Veruca thing spread over a couple of episodes

I wonder when it was decided that he was going to leave, the timing was always a bit odd. At least he did come back for one last episode though

I second this so much! Season 4 is honestly one of my favorite seasons, despite everyone's common complaints about it

I actually enjoy S4 a lot myself. I mean the overarching plot of the season with The Initiative was a great idea poorly executed in the end and Adam was the worst of the Big Bads, but S4 has a lot of merits and really strong episodes and great character growth for almost everyone. Plus it's a realistic representation of what life can be like when you go off to college and how friendships can suffer as people grow and change. It's also Tara and Spike's first season as a regular characters, a huge plus as I absolutely love both. I find S4 significantly superior to S7.

I'm really fond of s4 too, I think the whole thing with the Initiative could have done better - but it was getting to a point where the writers were going to address who in the government knew about the supernatural & what they were doing about it. Plus, ICA about splitting up the friendship groups as well, it was realistic & had to happen, even though I know that a lot of fans hated it.

The episodes themselves were really strong imo, & they were a lot of funny ones!

I think compared to the other seasons, Season 4 was lacking something.

Season 4, 7 and 1 are in the bad seasons trio for me...

And that's why I think a lot of people look down on it

Because it's not as overly strong as the two seasons its sandwiched between (S3/S5), but in the same time, it has its own merits and such
