Kendra/Bianca Lawson Appreciation
I don't recall a thread on Kendra the Vampire Slayer so I decided to add her. Loved her introduction. Not in the cargo hold but the shock of another Slayer being around. Loved Kendra.
Kendra was a perfect opposite of Buffy in that she was what Buffy could be like if she had been trained as a Potential from an early age. Kendra's life was being the Slayer whereas Buffy had a life beyond that. Kendra's death was so bad because it was so easy and quick. This was The Slayer and her death at the very least should have been heroic. Of course Kendra could not have stayed on the show so the alternatives would be a spinoff or killing her off. There is no way Buffy and Kendra could have shared the stage without one of them be relagated to being the sidekick. OK enough of my rant. Please discuss either the character and/or the actress. |

I really did like Kendra! I love that they brought in the aspect of another Slayer and how they had different styles of living and fighting and they eventually got along. I wish that we were able to see more of her before she was killed.

Add me! I wish we had more time with Kendra. The First Evil should have used her image in season 7. That would have been cool.

Add me too. I liked Kendra.
I didn't think that her death was bad. It was better that it was quick instead of slow and painful. And it wasn't just a run of the mill vamp that killed her. Drusilla was over a century and had psychic powers. __________________

Kendra
Kendra made a great counter point to the loose gun, Buffy.
Really liked the scene with her and Giles walking and talking about the training materials. The cargo hold scene did not work for me. Ever see a real cargo hold? Most people can not stand up. Her ending was much too quick. She was an interesting character, worthy of exploring further. |

Yes Giles and Kendra did get along well. Yes I would have loved to have seen Kendra expxlored more. Like I said, either killing her off or a spinoff were the only options since they could not have them both on the same show. I was not crazy about the cargo hold scene either but I guess it was supposed to add to the mystery as to who this person was. The same could have been done with her having arrived in the US on the flight like everyone else.

So, what should we talk about regarding Kendra?
some topics... What it must have been like for her when she returned to Jamaica with her views on being a Slayer completely changed. Growing up separated from her family and not having any friends. Knowing since she was a child that she was destined to be a demon hunter from a long line of mystical women. __________________

Yes it would have been nice to have more of a history with Kendra. Her perents must have been dedicated to what they believed what her purpose otherwish not have just handed their child to the Council.
As for her Watcher, I know its a plot point, but I would have liked to have seen him/her and seen his/her interaction to Kendra and if it was different than Giles to Buffy. Question, do you guys think she would have done as well as Buffy with the Big Bads that were coming or would she had sacrificed her life for her sister like Buffy did? |

She was as moral/ethical as Buffy. She was as good a fighter as Buffy--though she wasn't as innovative in her fighting techniques.
I think she could handle herself with Big Bads. I can't imagine her sacrificing her life mainly because of the fact that a huge part of her character is that she was taken away from her family and didn't have any friends (except for Buffy). I guess the monks could've made it so Kendra had Dawn (The Key) as her sister and found a way for her to stay with her instead of being separated once she was chosen to be an SIT. I don't know. __________________
