It does sound like Angel in S3, not Spike. He can't give her a normal life, kids, growing old together. These are old issues that Spuffy already knew before getting together. It does seem very contrived. Spike would try to look beyond those issues.

Comics Never Canon b/c I knew Spuffy breaking up has to be contrived among many things.
The comic page was on the Spuffy tag. I didn't wanna look at on the thread that's why I just linked the comic thread here. I honestly just think it's that Buffy can't ever be happy long thing Joss thinks b/c then fans would be bored.  The breakup is just to cause some drama too. So much of it makes no sense. I also read that the problems they have had other than these stupid issues that Spike brings up are normal things all couples go through. So that makes it even more contrived. Spike wouldn't just give up on their relationship like this. It's like now things have switched to Buffy being the one that wants to work it out and not lose him. I have to admit part of me loves that Buffy is in this place that she doesn't want them to breakup and lose Spike. You can't say she isn't in love with him by her reaction. It's like the dynamic has switched. You would think Buffy would be the one to want an out. " Buffy would be devastated if Spike died, and wouldn’t be looking for another relationship with anyone for a good long time." -Darkhorse Interesting There was one thing in issue 27 that I wasn’t really expecting to see, and that was in the letter column. There was a letter from someone who was most likely pro-Bangel, but trying very hard to come off as coolly objective. They wanted to know whether, if Spike were to die, Buffy would go back to Angel or look for someone new. (Their assumption was that Buffy would not be mourning Spike.) They still don’t use the L-word, the editor replies that Buffy would be devastated if Spike died, and wouldn’t be looking for another relationship with anyone for a good long time. Which is… interesting. I’m not going to make any story predictions on the strength of it, but it’s not the sort of answer you’d expect to see in an issue which purports to end on a Spuffy breakup. __________________
