I hate spuffy (obviously ) but I preferred S6 to S5. I found S5 boring and to be all over the place. Plus the whole key thing? If it hadn't been for The Gift, The Body, Intervention, Buffy vs. Dracula and Forever, the whole season would have been a complete waste.

S6 on the other hand was dark, and full of all kinds of evil. But it had a common theme that was inherent in the episodes. And Tabula Rasa (which was freaking hilarious) and OMWF (enough said).

But the thing about S6 is that, sure, it's dark and full of all kinds of evil, but that messy Spike show turned me off because it just didn't make sense to me, at all.

I'm sticking to, "Buffy was on vacation the entire season 6 so the Buffy bot stepped in and did its booty duty."

I agree though, that there are some good S6 eps, like the ones you mentioned.

Wow you guys made pretty huge posts. Loved reading your thoughts on the seasons.
I'll be brief, cause I don't feel inspired now.

Season 3 is my favorite season, followed very VERY closely by Season 2. It's really hard to chose between them, but I always seem to end up chosing season 3. But they're both the best seasons on the show by far.

S3 and S2 were the best IMO too Actually, my list is pretty much like yours Rafa! I'm just not sure if S1 comes before S4 in mine though

Season 2 and Season 3 are pretty close for me! I'm not sure I could pick between the two.

My favourite Buffy season is 3, Followed by season 2.

I like all the seasons to some degree because overall even though there were developments I didn't like yet I always found something that kept me watching, it got rarely boring or if it was there was another aspect that still entertained me well enough.
My favourite season is s2 though. It's just nicely balanced, I love the development of Willow/Oz and B/A don't annoy me as much as in S3 I just love the whole Angelus aspect and him pairing up with Spike/Drusilla.

Thematically seasons 5 may not have been as clear as season 6, but that's not to say it didn't have a whole lot of substance. I thought they blended mythical dangers and angst with the struggles and tragedy of daily life, too...

S5 did have substance, I just found it to be boring S6 was much more alive IMO. Buffy's deep escalation into the darkness, Willow's reliance on magic, Xander's insecurities, Dawn's annoying teenage angst, etc...the topics in S6 are all the peaks of the topics hinted at in S5.
