One of the funniest/best bits of dialogue Spike's ever delivered. I always give a little yelp of laughter and excitement when he rags Glory.

I loved this episode. It's easily in my top 20, especially of episodes that I'd like to watch again.

I loved both of those scenes, Scythe and Ragnarok. And you're right about that being typical Spike. I loved how he made Glory question herself - heh. The last scene where Buffy discovers Spike didn't rat her out is a favorite of mine too. You can see the change on Buffy's face and posture as she realizes just what he went through for her and Dawn.

Bronson: I'm not in the camp that finds William and Spike to be interchangeable, but I do agree that Spike was still capable of great feeling and loyalty whereas I doubt that would be true for Angelus. As for spilling to Glory, Angelus probably would've gone through a string of curses and a couple off color-threats, but then yeah, he probably would've given Dawn up easily enough.

As for Spike not knowing that it was Buffy and not the Buffybot, I wondered that myself, but considering the shape he was in, it was likely that his nose was broken and therefore probably not working correctly. I've never broken my nose personally, but I can imagine it might cause swelling and disfunction. Add to that the fact he likely had broken ribs - Glory did kick him there - he might not want to inhale to smell if he didn't have to. The smell of his own blood alone might've caused his senses to be blocked as well. So I can fanwank it easily enough that he wouldn't have known that it was Buffy until her warm lips touched his.

This is a great ep, I love it.

The parts people have already pointed out are hilarious.

Also loved Buffy's sarcastic "And that's what it's all about" while Giles was doing the ritual thing and was kinda dancing.

It is a little stupid that the Scoobs couldn't tell it wasn't Buffy, but I suppose it's not something you'd think about.... that said, in The Pack, when Xander was acting weird, the first thing the gals though (or, Willow) was that he was possessed (which he was).

Ah, great ep for sure.

Yes that would make sense that because of the beating he had gotten, that he probably would not have known it was Buffy. Good theory.

I loved that mysterious phrase that the first Slayer gave to Buffy: "Death is your gift"

Great Episode.

I don't know. The Angelus we saw in AtS S4 might very well have refused to cooperate with Glory. But only so that he could get loose, grab Dawn and kill her himself.

I can buy that. There's no doubt his "enhanced vampire senses" were not in optimum working order. He'd also have little reason to suspect he was being tricked. Under the circumstances, he'd have had to believe that if the real Buffy were to enter his crypt, it would be with blood in her eye and a stake in hand.

I think Buffy should have been more upset with Xander and Willow's failure to figure out that the bot was not her. It seems like a fairly major character inconsistency to me. She was extremely upset with Giles and Riley in S4 when they failed to recognize that Faith was occupying her body - though I'll grant that Riley, at least, really should have figured it out. But in this instance she let it go. Maybe I'm making more of this than I should, but it's one of those nits that just bugs me.

I suppose because at the time in S5 Joss and Co. wanted us to believe that the Glory situation was the most dire of all dire situations, and she just tossed it aside because there were more important things to think about? Every other word out of Buffy's mouth is S5 was 'Dawn'.

Loved the Spuffy in this ep!

Also, the BuffyBot calling Giles 'Guyles' was freaking hilarious, and Buffy's Who-whating-how-with-huh? to the gangs saying she was having sex with Spike

And the first real Spuffy kiss at the end?

Oh yeah!

GILES: Guy-les? Spike didn't even bother to program my name properly.

Yes, that did get a little annoying. That explanation makes sense.

I liked that too. Also Buffy calling the bot "skirt-girl".

Where the heck did all the B/Sers go? I thought this thread would get a lot more posts.

I'm here, too, and being a B/S shipper of the non-fluffy variety, this was the first episode where I really thought there was hope for anything between Spike and Buffy that wasn't squashed soon after (I had hope in FFL, but that was soon crushed by well, Crush, ironically.) I saw the chemistry earlier, but this episode actually gave us something more. Admittedly it was just a beginning, because Spike still had a way to go and the Buffybot was a good indication of that, but I could see real potential there.

And I don't know where my fellow B/S shippers went. Perhaps there aren't many of us left anymore. That's okay, I like being different.

I wasn't sure that they were going to set Buffy up with Spike, but I'll agree that the idea didn't (for the first time) seem completely ridiculous to me. Though I wouldn't have bought anything more than they ended up doing in S5. At this stage of the season, Buffy was in full Dawn Protection Mode. By the time Spiral rolled around, she was downright scary.

I gave Spike some credit for resisting Glory, but that (as you indicated) has to be balanced out by the bot - surely one of his more repulsive ideas. He'd had so many bad ideas that part of me figured he'd only got one right by accident. I didn't really start heading back towards liking him until the scene with Dawn in the caves in Tough Love. There was a scene where he showed true empathy and compassion to Dawn, with no possible ulterior motive.

Thank you I thought I was the only one who found it annoying. I also believe that after Season 5, they did not know what to do with Dawn which would explain why all Dawn ever did in Season 6 was whine and complain. Michelle Trachenberg said that she hated that.
