Episode Discussion: 3x01 Anne

Since we aren't going to have new episodes to discuss, we're going to have weekly episode discussion threads for old episodes. New threads will, of course, appear each Tuesday. Except when they don't.

Anne

School is back in session, and Buffy's friends are fending off vampires without the help of the Slayer. Buffy, on the other hand, is in Los Angles with a new name and identity. But when an old acquaintance by the name of Lily remembers her, Buffy is drawn into a plot to drain teenagers of their youth. Buffy tries to help Lily find her missing boyfriend, and ends up getting both of them sucked into a demon dimension. Fighting her way out, Buffy saves Lily and many others, closing the gateway permanently. Having been reminded of her real identity, Buffy heads back home.

(Episode summary on loan from buffyguide.com)

RtS: #125; beat Dead Man's Party in the play-in round; lost to Conversations With Dead People in the first round.

It's not a bad episode, but the "pity the poor runaways" theme was way too movie of the week to impress me much. I'm still not sure what the point of that was supposed to be. The best scenes in the episode take place in the hell dimension. The running fight sequence between Buffy and Ken's minions remains one of the best they ever gave us. And since Chanterelle's reappearance as Lily eventually gave us Anne on AtS, the ep gets a few bonus points for that.

Please feel free to post your comments, screencaps, favorite scenes and quotes.

Next: 3x02, Dead Man's Party. Really not in a big rush to put that one up until I'm in a really bad mood so I can properly trash it.

I quite liked this episodes, I felt really bad for Buffy and I'm glad that she returned home at the end.

I liked that it showed that she would be able to take care of herslef if she really needed to. She wasn't just sleeping on the streets like some of the others in the episode, she had got a job and was supporting herself.

I liked Lilly at first, but then she got on my nerves quite a bit during the episode.

This scene was so cool I loved that they used it in the music at the begining

Fav quotes:

Nurse: What are you doing?
Buffy: Breaking into your office and going through your private files. Candidate for what?

Guard: Who are you?
Lily: No one.
Guard: Who are you?
Boy#2: No one.
Guard: Who are you?
Buffy: (friendly) I'm Buffy. The Vampire Slayer. And you are...?

Wasn't the strongest season premiere but it was okay. I felt bad for Buffy, I did.
I really liked Giles's concern for Buffy in this ep, searching for her etc and I was a little annoyed that Joyce blamed it on him ( though it was understandable).
Loved Willow at the beginning: " That's right big boy, come and get it."

I thought it was a pretty strong premiere. The message was clear, and I liked that she was supporting herself. I enjoyed a glimpse into LA, and getting a peek of what Angel was going to be like. I thought the gang fending for themselves, and Buffy in LA, was fitting. She needed to leave Sunnydale. I think it was a good start to a great season.

I liked this episode as well I thought that it was cool how Buffy could support herself without anyone. I also liked how this episode helped Buffy to remember who she is. Love the quotes by the way my favorite:

BUFFY: This'll probably go faster if we split up.

Lily: (nods in agreement) Can I come with you?

BUFFY: Okay, where did I lose you on the whole splitting up thing?

Lily: (smiles) Oh. Sorry. :lol;

She is just so clueless, but yeah I really do like this episode, loved seeing the gang try and fight without Buffy. They weren't so good though. Oz trying to throw the stake was humorous, loved the Xander and Cordy reunion after summer break, and I also loved Giles' concern for Buffy, it showed how much he really loved her and that he really did have a father's love for her. So cute!

Well this episode was ok but not one of my favorites. You can easily skip it in repeats but I guess it had to done and I did like Lily. Buffy needed to runaway for a while but like she realized she can't run from being the slayer. I liked the scoobies scenes the most in the episode; Xander and Cordy especially.

I loved this episode. Seeing Buffy so broken hearted about Angel was really sad though. It was a different pace then the other episodes but I liked it. The scoobies slaying in her place was sweet and I loved Xander's and Cordy's reunion Favorite quotes: "Forever... thats the whole point" and my ultimate favorite "I'm Buffy. The vampire slayer. And you are?"

Yes that was great when she introduced herself. That was her accepting being the Slayer I guess.

I see why this episode needed to be done, so in that respect I do like it. But it's not one of my favourites either, and I occasionally skip it when I rewatch episodes.

The main point of interest for me with this episode, is the continued arc from the the season two finale, with Buffy leaving and now being out of town. Plus, that it sets up for the following episode where we see her returning to Sunnydale and how relationships between all characters have evolved over the summer. But more on that later, of course. Like I said, the main theme with Buffy someplace else and what she's been doing is good in my opinion. Although I don't care too much for the actual 'episode only' bits of this one.

I love this episode - a really quirky thing I like about this is episode is that, in an episode of Angel, Anne (Chanterelle) has made a sucess of herself as Anne. I just liked how this was testament to Buffy's influence and her strength of character; the idea that as everyone as she has failed but as Anne, the small part of Buffy, she is strong and assertive. I love the cuddle at the end too.

I liked the episode Anne, and I loved the fact that Chantarelle/Lily/Anne slowly progressed from Buffy to Angel... I love the fact that the Anne we met in angel was that way because of Buffy.
