Indeed. That moment right around this one when Cordy grabs his hand and he gets excited but Fred says it may have been reflexive as opposed to responsive...

Valid point.
Now that you've pointed that out, I actually can see it as an unnecessary and somewhat intrusive blip of drama as though it was a self-service because the writers got off on picking on the Cangel hopefuls. Though unlike in 'Tomorrow' and even 'Awakening', I don't suppose it achieved any hope since, by this point, it was pretty strongly established that Cordy's chances of being revived were an implausibility. __________________

They are. They're part of Angel's emotional journey.
Those fantasies were, in fact, more real than anything we saw on the screen in that they represented his naked core; his deepest feelings for Cordy and the most honest depictions of the man he wanted to be. Now the 'Waiting in the Wings' dressing room scenes, are what I question the reality of though I'm willing to believe that the ghosts were attracted to their chemistry and feelings for each other. __________________
