I did feel that Xander/Anya had serious moments before HB but I agree that overall their relationship was treated as a comedic relief.

I think that all of the fans were right there with Willow in The Replacement when she said "Really?" to Xander saying he needs Anya. And then in Into the Woods when Buffy said that he treats Anya like a conveneince and she comes off like a love-sick puppy following him around.

Are there any fan fictions about Buffy cross-country road tripping with Xander that summer between GD#2 and The Freshman?

I'd ove to read that fic, if it existed. I'm not sure. Most of the XanderBuffy fics I read are post-Chosen or in later seasons.

Bander is one of those UC ships that you can imagine becoming cannon on the series in any season. I say that as a huge Spuffy, Bangel, and Briley shipper.

I should definitely look for any fics of Buffy & Xan roadtripping together.
