The series did do a fantastic job of showing lead up to Buffy's depression in Season 6 :nod:

In hindsight, it's amazing Giles/The scoobs didn't see it coming.

I think it was really a matter of everyone having their own things going on. Depression isn't always the easiest thing to spot, sadly :no:

I also think it's tricky because, really, depression if when people are sad for no reason & have trouble coping with everyday life. The things Buffy was sad about, it made sense for her to be sad about, like with her mom dying. That doesn't automatically equate to depression.

Plus the truth is most people don't recognize depression for what it is irl. They don't know how to treat or deal with it.
