| Buffy & Spike Appreciation: Because the Whole House Thought She Was in Love With Him  Welcome to our B/S thread! This thread is for the best couple that ever appeared on TV! Please don't bash the couple, the characters or the posters here!  Buffy/Spike Shippers:

| From the last thread... See, lines like that is why I think Buffy has an idealised view of why he went out and got the soul. Not that what she tells Dawn is entirely innacurate, but was Spike really as sorry as Buffy thinks he is? No, I don't believe that. Spike truly felt remorse only after he was resouled. There might be a bit of avoidance going on because for various complicated and confusing reasons, Buffy just wants to gloss over the rape attempt and everything else that happened. And if that means taking what Spike tells her at face value, so be it. Hmm... I'm a little unsure about it. Probably because it's a little more complicated than if he did or didn't feel remorse. I think he did, but only to the extent that it hurt Buffy. So yeah, I do think he felt sorry about it pre-soul, but only insomuch as Buffy's reaction than the actual act. Errrr... Yeah, that may no make sense. | |||

| Love the title.  No, it did make sense. And I don't disagree with you really. But ok, it's like this, do you really think remorse was the main driving force, catalyst, whatever you want to call it, for why Spike went out and got the soul? Buffy seems to believe this, but I think there might have been some self-deceiving going on with the both of them. Because it's easier to keep things nice and simple. Buffy I think really wanted to find a reason to forgive him even before she found out about the soul. And I'm not pulling out examples. Either you see what I mean, or you don't.  I mean really, Buffy might as well have said, "Oh Spike, you fought to win back your soul for me? ZOMG. That's so romantic." That relationship seemed more to grow - rather than the more quick attraction she had with some of the other guys on the list. She did call him a "doof" afterall, giving the impression that that was her first impression of him. I stand by the "creepy" though - heh. As for Spike and the soul - I do agree that what Spike says before he goes to get the soul lends more not to feeling guilty. It is more the expressions on his face - both right after the incident and as he relives it in his crypt that gave me the impression of guilt. Spike's expressions often express what he doesn't say out loud, but as for his actual words - you are correct in that there aren't any in season 6. The main reason I'm not so sure in season 7 is because Spike wasn't as much into deceving himself then - at least not by Never Leave Me. I think that would've been the perfect opportunity to admit such a thing - especially when he was trying to get Buffy to kill him - unless "window dressing" really was his attempt to admit it.
