I see both keeping Angel a secret from her friends and having Spike in the house with them in S7 as a betrayal from her friends POV. We (the viewers) knew that it was Angel but her friends didn't. And honestly Angelus tortured Giles and killed his girlfriend. It would have been nice of her to at least tell him. Spike was a sleeper and while it wasn't his fault it was also not smart or safe to have a sleeper agent for the First in the house with the very girls you were protecting from the First. Clearly his chip and tying him up didn't help.

I think that she was going to eventually tell them about Angel. I saw it as her being apart from him (though there was that one scene in B#2) for nine months and needing to spend time alone with him and understand what she was feeling about him and their relationship before she brought anyone else into it. Her friends knew that the spell worked. They knew that the person that Buffy killed was Angel and that the person that returned from Hell was Angel. They just had trouble accepting him back after seeing Angelus doing evil while wearing Angel's face. It wasn't Angel that tortured Giles or killed Jenny. Giving Angel back his body was what Jenny was trying to do.

I don't see another option for Spike. Would she have made him live somewhere else while she had every single one of her friends and all of the SITs living in her house? I do think that the SITs should have known about the trigger but then I don't see what their knowing would have changed. They needed to live with Buffy for her to protect them. The last time one of them ran off she got murdered. I don't see how it didn't help since he never hurt any one of them after NLM and was able to help her train them without a single incident. That time that Dawn got clocked by the shelf in LMPTM was the only incident after Buffy rescued him that someone got even mildly hurt by him because of the trigger.

I honestly felt that only Giles knew. Her friends were too invovled in their lives to think about what happened to make her leave. But the fact is that he could have been dangerous and she should have told them about a possible threat. That's why I started by saying that it was a betrayal from their POV's.

Same with Spike He was a danger to the people she was supposed to protect and he was unpredictable. She had people telling her that he shouldn't have been in that house and she kept him there anyways. So from her friends POV it was a betrayal because she chose Spike over them.
