Indeed I actually just saw a rant about how "Empty Places" is entirely OOC. The writer took point especially with Dawn telling Buffy to leave.

It is ooc....all written to make Spike look good imo

& no one talks about how badly Buffy had been acting in the eps building up to it either - I think she was also being ooc.

That was the point of the writer as well

The whole season at that point was OOC. Willow and Xander were kinda being themselves, but the fact they weren't backing up Buffy just seems odd. Even when Willow called out Buffy in "Dead Man's Party", she still was clearly in her corner.

The thing is, a lot of what the people were saying about Buffy in that scene had been true imo.....she hadn't been treating them well. It drives me crazy that no one else was allowed to have an opinion on the way to go forward tbh....like they should all just fall to her feet whenever she walks in the room

But still, the whole thing was ooc, it was a bad climax to a season that had really lost it's magic when it stopped focusing on the core gang & the feelings between them...

Oh definitely. That's the thing though, is that EVERYONE felt OOC to me. Yes, Buffy obviously has had moments where she's a bit overzealous in her command over everyone , but the way Season 7 had her written, it's just...it just didn't seem very much like Buffy.

I agree. Something was off from the beginning - maybe it was that they tried to go back to high school? It would have been a good throwback & they could have had some eps revolving around that, but setting nearly every ep there in the first half of the season might have been a bit much

There really are just too many problems with that season to list, aren't there?

Yeah I think they had gotten some complaints about Season 6 from the network and were trying to bring the show to its roots whilst wrapping things up.

I can never work out when they knew it was the last season though, so I wonder about that, but not sure if it can really excuse the way the storylines played out...

Once again, I'm hoping that new book coming out later this year will shed some light on it.
