Buffy the Vampire Slayer Introduces the Slayerverse's Biggest Bad Ever

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has officially introduced its newest Big Bad, and he has a plan that overshadows every previous villain in the franchise.

BY BRANDON ZACHARY
PUBLISHED 1 HOUR AGO

Spoiler:

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #27 by Jeremy Lambert, Carmelo Zagaria, Raul Angulo & Ed Dukeshire, on sale now.

The modern reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has proven willing to deviate from the original show's storyline in unexpected and exciting ways. It's also found ways to introduce new threats, such as the fearsome Hellmother and the vampiric Xander Harris.

Now, the most powerful threat yet has finally gotten a good look at the Scooby Gang, and is likely coming after them. Buffy the Vampire Slayer has formally introduced Silas, the next Big Bad, and his schemes for the multiverse place him on a level beyond any other threat in the history of the franchise.

Spoiler:

The multiverse has become a major element of the current Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, with the Scoobies of the 2019 reboot dealing with threats from outside their own reality as fractures in their personal lives drive the gang apart. The Scoobies, along with Anya, have been investigating a mysterious figure known as Silas, who controls the multiversal hounds known as the Lurkers. According to Anya, the "Multiverse Man" is on a path towards wiping out and destroying every reality that exists in the Slayer-verse.

As the group prepares, Ethan Rayne becomes a magical mentor to Willow. Originally just a spirit in this continuity, the group's brief visit to another timeline resulted in Ethan possessing the body of his more villainous, older self from another reality. Now capable of teaching Willow more about magic with a hands-on approach, the pair are training when a portal to the Astral Plane is ripped open around them and drags them into the space between realities. Ethan is teleported back to Sunnydale before Willow can react, and she realizes there's another figure within the space with her. The figure is a man with black eyes and a torn jacket. With a grim smile, he notes how Willow is still meddling and allows her to escape through another portal.

Spoiler:

With his final mocking words, he points out that he'll easily be able to follow Willow down the line -- and with the Lurkers by his side, it's clear Anya's arguments about him being behind their attacks on the Scoobies had some validity to them. Willow is able to destroy the portal behind her, but it's clear the experience has shaken her -- and given the severity of things Willow has been exposed to since becoming friends with Buffy, it's a major sign of just how dangerous Silas might really be. Given his unique appearance, it's unlikely that Silas is truly connected to characters from the previous Slayerverse. Instead, he could be a uniquely multiversal figure, willing and able to bring destruction to all the worlds around him. Operating on this level makes him possibly the most dangerous Big Bad in franchise history.

As far as introductions go, this is a memorable one for Silas. Showcasing his casual control over the creatures that just last issue were chasing Buffy and Willow with lethal intent, Silas comes across as a man with the utmost confidence in his schemes, whatever they may be, and he now knows exactly where to find the Scoobies who are trying to uncover his plans. It puts a large target on the back of the Scooby Gang, just as their own internal conflicts have been growing in recent storylines. Silas striking soon might give him an advantage over a divided batch of Sunnydale protectors -- or it might be just the threat needed to bring everyone back together against a single, incredibly powerful enemy.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Teases the Biggest Bad's Grand Plan

The multiversal Buffy the Vampire villain Silas has made his first move against the Scoobies and is seeking to make a hero his corrupt ally.

BY BRANDON ZACHARY
PUBLISHED 3 HOURS AGO

Spoiler:

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 from Boom! Studios, on sale now

Introduced formally in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #27, Silas has quickly been setting himself up as the ultimate villain of not just the series but perhaps the entire Slayer-Multiverse as a whole. For that plan to work though, he's been seemingly hunting down targets -- and is finally making his move.

Silas has officially begun his attack against the defenders of Sunnydale in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 by Jeremy Lambert, Valentina Pinti, Raul Angulo, and Ed Dukeshire -- and he has his sights set on turning one notable hero into his greatest ally.

Spoiler:

Teased out as the Scoobies of Boom! Studios Buffy the Vampire Slayer series learned more about the multiverse, Silas has increasingly revealed himself to be perhaps the most dangerous villain in the history of the franchise. The Lurkers -- skeletal dogs that hunt multiversal visitors when they're in different realities -- were established as his malicious agents. However, it turns out they are fully extensions of him and his will. Silas is capable of seeing through them and having them act on his behalf. When they consume the memories and minds of those they hunt, this fuels Silas and his power. Traveling across universes, Silas has been consuming more and more beings from various realities -- seemingly with the intent to ultimately wipe out the entire multiverse.

Anya describes him as a "starving God who gets his kicks through everyone else" while hinting at a former relationship with him, while her ally Morgan describes him as the ultimate Memory Vampire/Universe God. The sheer power of Silas has the Scoobies preparing for full-blown war with him -- while also prompting Ethan Rayne to run back to Wesley and the Watcher's Council to inform them of their plans and the importance of bringing Willow onto their side. Silas clearly has dark intentions for all of existence, threatening more than just the core reality of the comic series. But he may have also found an ally on the primary world of the series: Faith. One of the three currently active Slayers, Faith has been working -- alongside Wesley and Robin Wood -- with the Watcher's Council and Mayor Wilkens.

Spoiler:

But things have been teased to be far more complicated regarding her, with Faith's memories confirmed to be tampered with by the Watchers in an attempt to mold her into a more controllable and ruthless Slayer. It turns out Faith isn't even actually from the core universe of the series. This gives the Watchers more autonomy with her, as she's an unknown with no family or friends actively looking for her. Their experiments might finally come back to haunt them, though.

Noticing Faith's status as a multiversal visitor like himself, Silas approaches the young woman while she's asleep. Silas offers her the chance to stand by his side and fight alongside him. In exchange, he'll unlock all of her hidden memories -- and allow her to live forever outside of time with him. Surrounded by Lurkers, Faith's final choice isn't made clear. But given the original character's tendency to betray the other Scoobies, it wouldn't be surprising to see her commit such a betrayal to learn more about herself.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Teases an Epic Multiverse Team-Up

Buffy Summers and her allies are preparing to fight Silas -- and they might need an [army of Slayers if they're going to have any chance of winning.

BY BRANDON ZACHARY
PUBLISHED 4 HOURS AGO

Spoiler:

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 from Boom! Studios, on sale now

Across various incarnations, Buffy Summers has proven herself to be an impressive hero. Along with her friends and allies, she's faced many incredible threats and saved the world multiple times. But there are some problems that are so dangerous that an entire multiverse of heroes might be needed to stop them.

The only chance to combat Silas might be for Buffy and her allies to recruit an entire army of Slayers from across the multiverse -- with Buffy's plan slowly crystalizing in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 by Jeremy Lambert, Valentina Pinti, Raul Angulo and Ed Dukeshire.

Spoiler:

Buffy, Willow, Kendra and their allies amongst the Scoobies have been dealing with some increasingly dangerous forces in the modern incarnation of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even beyond the challenges presented by the Hellmother and the recently-dispatched vampiric Xander, the group has been exposed more and more to an expansive multiverse full of Slayers. Along the way, they've also caught the attention of Silas -- a mysterious and powerful force that seeks to consume the memories and minds of all realities to use as sustenance. The Scoobies have been trying to figure out how to combat such a force -- with Willow concerned about his sheer power and Ethan Rayne seemingly betraying the Scoobies to the Watcher's Council in hopes they can better combat Silas.

However, Buffy has an idea that might change everything -- bringing up the plan to her allies, Buffy argues that she's recently felt down about herself upon discovering she wasn't special in the multiverse. There are countless other variants of Buffy from other realities that deviated in unique ways. But that also means Buffy can see herself as part of a possibly endless army of Slayers. If the heroes could reach across worlds, they could potentially recruit these other Slayers to their cause and work together to fight back against Silas and his plans to consume the multiverse. It's a risky ploy, as it could leave them open to Silas and his Lurkers.

Spoiler:

They could also end up stumbling upon darker worlds and gaining new enemies -- such as the hypothetical world where Giles was turned into a vampire and along with a corrupted Buffy brought pain and malice to their world. But it could also be the key to not just uniting the Slayers, but all sorts of allies from across the Slayerverse. This could even include a trip to the interdimensional Hyperion Hotel -- the last spotted sighting of Angel, Spike, their allies and some of their own multiversal counterparts. If Silas is the overwhelming and overarching threat that the Scoobies have come to believe he is, then recruiting a full army of Slayers to fight him might be the best way to defeat him -- especially if a few multiversal versions of magic-users like Willow could also be found.

Buffy and Kendra even get their first official recruit in the form of Morgan, a previous Slayer who was resurrected thanks to Anya. With the Slayers and their allies preparing to go to war, it might be time for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise to unite against a threat to every single possible world in existence. But it'll take plenty of them to come up against Silas if his true potential is anywhere close to what Willow and Ethan fear.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Sets Up a Slayer Civil War at the Worst Possible Time

Buffy and the rest of the Slayers have been increasingly positioned against one another -- all the while, a multiversal threat continues to grow.

BY BRANDON ZACHARY
PUBLISHED 3 HOURS AGO

Spoiler:

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #29, on sale now from Boom! Studios

The Slayers are, across the history of most worlds in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer multiverse, forced to fight alone as the only Slayer at any given time. But that hasn't been the case in the current Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, which has activated multiple Slayers at once. But this has also opened up the door to conflict between them, which could soon explode.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #29 by Jeremy Lambert, Marianna Ignazzi, Mattia Iaconov and Ed Dukeshire escalates the growing tension between the two rival groups of heroes -- all as Silas seems to escalate his plans to wipe out the entire multiverse.

Spoiler:

In the Boom! Studios modern incarnation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there are numerous notable Slayers all operating openly at the same time -- a rarity, considering the subsequent Slayers are only supposed to be called if their predecessor was killed. But due to the specifics of their adventures into the Hellmouth earlier in the series, Buffy Summers and Kendra Young have been working together to protect Sunnydale. This also resulted in the Faith Lehane to be called upon, and all of this was further complicated by the revelations that Anya had been able to revive Morgan Palmer -- the Slayer whose death activated Buffy's latent abilities. The former three had been working together for a time -- until Faith's killing of a vampiric Xander seemingly severed her bonds with Buffy and Willow.

This has coincided with an increasing divide between Rupert Giles -- Buffy's loyal and dedicated Watcher -- and his mother Dorothy, the head of the Watcher's Council. Content with sacrificing the Slayers in the line of duty with little regret or restraint, Dorothy has tried to assert her power and authority in Sunnydale with the aid of Wesley-Wydem Price, Robin Wood and Mayor Richard Jenkins. Through them, she's also recruited Faith to her side -- who seems unaware of the mental tampering the Watcher's had conducted on her. Buffy the Vampire Slayer #29 reveals that Kendra has also been targeted by Dorothy, who uses their connection via Wesley to try and attract her to their side. Although Kendra is interested in the resources available to the Watchers, she seems to want to foster a genuine alliance.

Spoiler:

But her attempts appear doomed to fail, as the two groups end up openly confronting each other in a graveyard during an attack of Lurkers from Silas. Arriving on the scene via portals created by the Watchers, Dorothy and her recruits end up finding Buffy and Morgan working together. Shocked to discover Morgan alive, Dorothy is even more furious when she discovers that Morgan was behind the murder of her own duplicitous Watcher AND that her son Rupert has been working with her. Dorothy orders the capture and detainment of Morgan, Anya and anyone who continues to stand by their side -- with the main group just barely escaping. Buffy and her allies also see Kendra with Dorothy -- and all she can offer is a meek excuse that she did it for her, and to try to call off the attack on their friends.

This Slayer Civil War comes at a very dangerous time. Buffy is trying to rally an army of multiversal Slayers -- which will likely require a lot of magic and power from Willow. Having Dorothy and her forces hunting them down won't help on that front in the slightest. Making matters worse, Faith is increasingly being trusted by Dorothy and has even been given the Scythe of the First Slayer. However, Silas has also been targeting her, hoping to turn her to his side -- and effectively giving him a spy into the Watcher's camp. If the Slayers want any chance of defeating Silas and saving their entire reality, they'll need to learn how to work together once more before everything falls apart once and for all.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Gives Spoiler One Of the Buffyverse's Most Powerful Weapons

Buffy the Vampire Slayer just introduced a major weapon into the new Slayerverse -- and gives it someone surprising.

BY BRANDON ZACHARY
PUBLISHED 1 DAY AGO

Spoiler:

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #29, on sale now

The Scythe is one of the most notable and important weapons in the original Slayerverse. Introduced in the seventh and final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as an ancient tool to be used in the fight against the First Evil and its forces, the Scythe proved to be an incredibly useful weapon.

Now, it also appears to be one that exists in other worlds too, as it was just revealed in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #29 by Jeremy Lambert, Marianna Ignazzi, Mattia Iacono, and Ed Dukeshire -- only for it to end up in the hands of a Slayer other than Buffy.

Spoiler:

In the history of the series, the Scythe was forged for Sineya, aka the First Slayer. After using the weapon to destroy the last remaining Old One on the planet, the weapon was embedded into stone by the Guardians -- the same organization that would eventually come to be known as the Watcher's Council. In the present day, Buffy and claimed the Scythe and was able to use it to kill Caleb, use it in the battle against the endless waves of Turok-Han that tried to breach the surface, and even work Willow to use it as a conduit to magically activate the Slayer Powers in every potential young woman across the globe. It became a symbol of the Slayers as a whole in the sequel comic stories that followed, and was eventually taken up by Melaka Fray, a Slayer from the 23rd century.

In the original series, the Scythe was the secret weapon that turned the tide against the plans of the First Evil, Seeing it uncovered in the current iteration of the Slayerverse is a good indication that the current circumstances require a serious rebuttal and show of force. But there are some notable differences between it and the one seen in the universe of the original series. For one thing, the Scythe is not embedded in stone to await a proper champion. Instead, the Guardians of this universe kept the blade themselves, watching over it until they deemed an emergency dangerous enough and a Slayer capable enough to wield it. That day has come, with Silas and his Lurkers making their way onto this world and working to consume the minds and memories of anyone he can.

Spoiler:

Notably, the Scythe also doesn't end up with Buffy, as she's found herself somewhat opposed to the Watchers. Buffy -- alongside Giles, Willow, Anya, and the previous Slayer Morgan -- have drifted away from the Watcher's Council, who've instead recruited Faith, Robin, Wes, and are making a play for Kendra that could ignite lingering complications into bigger problems. But this also means that Giles' mother Dorothy, the current leader of the Watcher's, has the ability to give the Scythe to anyone she chooses. Ultimately, she gives it over to Faith -- who quickly takes a liking to the Scythe and utilizes it in battle against the Lurkers.

On top of preventing Buffy from taking up a weapon that could likely help her and Willow in their plan to rally a multiversal army to combat Silas and his plans to eliminate every reality, this also arms Faith with a weapon of significant importance and magical potential. Considering that Silas has quietly approached her about the possibility of fighting by his side in exchange for the reward of her full memories restored, this could end up giving some of the Slayerveres' most dangerous figures one of it's most potent and powerful weapons.

Boom launches new Buffy series.

Take a first look at Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer, set 30 hard years after the show

In Boom Studios’ newest Buffy seres, the Slayer is still fighting in her 50s

By Cass Marshall Sep 17, 2021

Spoiler:

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is long over, but the protagonist lives on in the comic book world. And this fall, Boom Studios is taking her where she’s never gone before. Buffy The Last Vampire Slayer takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and Buffy is in her 50s. That’s right: It’s Old Man Logan Woman Buffy.

Written by Casey Gilly with art from Joe Jaro, in the time of the four-issue series, things have gone terribly wrong. A magical catastrophe has nearly blotted out the sun, cloaking the world in darkness and giving vampires free rein to cause trouble. Buffy is fighting just to stay alive, until she finds a young girl who might just be able to end the fight.

It’s a story that might feel similar to anyone who’s watched Logan, but that doesn’t make it a bad idea. It’s interesting to see an older Buffy who doesn’t have to worry about school stresses, romantic drama, or rival Slayers. Check out Jaro’s character designs for future versions of Buffy and Spike, as well as five covers for Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer #1 below, courtesy of Boom Studios!

Spoiler:

The first issue of Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer will hit shelves in December 2021.

BY EMILY ZOGBI
PUBLISHED 33 MINUTES AGO

Spoiler:

Boom Studios released the first look at Buffy The Last Vampire Slayer, a new comic series set 30 years after the end of the show.

In a story similar to Logan, writer Casey Gilly and artist Joe Jaro have created an all-new series that follows Buffy (or Old Woman Buffy), now in her 50s, as she fights through a post-apocalyptic future where a magical disaster has blocked out the sun, allowing vampires to freely roam the earth. Buffy spent nearly 30 years just fighting to survive until she finds a young girl who might be able to save the world.

Spoiler:

Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer #1 is set to hit stores in December 2021.
