"24" star Kiefer Sutherland headbutted a man at an after party for the Met Costume Institute gala at Submercer on Monday, but he claims it was all to defend Brooke Shields' honor, not from public drunkenness as some have reported.
Not so fast, says the lady in question. Shields denies the story that she was knocked down by Proenza Schouler designer Jack McCullough, which necessitated heroic action from Sutherland. Shields' rep tells TMZ.com, "Jack did nothing inappropriate. It's not clear what caused Kiefer to do what he did."
McCullough reportedly has either a broken nose or lacerations on his nose as a result. Police are investigating the matter.
Sutherland is currently on probation in Los Angeles for a DUI.
Okay, maybe we're crazy, but even if someone goes around shoving other folks, when is a headbutt the next logical

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Actor Kiefer Sutherland turned himself into police on Thursday and was arrested and charged with assault for headbutting another man at a swank party in New York City.

The star of the hit television show "24" was questioned by police at a station in the Manhattan neighborhood of Soho and faces a minor assault charge, according to a police spokeswoman.

Sutherland is accused of assaulting fashion designer Jack McCollough at a party Monday night after an annual costume gala held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to police and several media outlets who identified McCollough.
Police said the assault took place at 2 a.m. at an exclusive bar below The Mercer Hotel, when McCollough stepped in between Sutherland and another woman, identified by media outlets as actress Brooke Shields.

Sutherland became irate when the designer bumped into Shields and got into an argument before headbutting him in the face, according to local media reports.
McCollough, co-founder of women's wear fashion label Proenza Schouler, reported the incident to police the next day and has been photographed with a cut on his nose.
Sutherland was not jailed and left the police station without commenting to reporters. He may appear in court within the next few weeks.

A representative for the actor did not return a call for comment.
The Manhattan District Attorney's office had no comment.

A criminal charge, even a minor one, could have dire consequences for the 42-year-old Canadian-born actor,
He is serving five years probation in connection with the LA incident. At the time of that arrest, Sutherland was on probation for a prior drunk driving violation.

Los Angeles officials have said they will decide if Sutherland violated his probation due to his arrest in New York.

Oh that is really not good. I really hoped the reports weren't true when I first heard it, but obviously they are. I just hope they don't end up sending him back to jail

i hope all this can be resolved quickly a apology from Kiefer etc should quell the talk of breaking probation. Hoping that the man ,the fashion designer will take what seems to be a misunderstanding on kiefer's part as sincere and drop any thought of charges .

A representative for Jack McCollough, the man who claims he was headbutted by "24" star Kiefer Sutherland, is speaking out about his alleged injuries.

McCollough's rep tells ET that the fashion designer sustained a broken nose as a result of the alleged attack, which he says left McCollough's nose broken in three places.
Officials say the actor has a summons on June 22 at Manhattan Criminal Court, after being charged with assault in the third degree.

Just to cheer this thread up a bit. I'm not sure if this was posted on here but this is from one of his interviews when he was over in the UK:

KIEFER Sutherland has revealed that fans think he really is his 24 character Jack Bauer.

The actor, who plays the terror-fighting hero on the Sky One show, said in London: "On my flight here a couple next to me said, ‘We feel much safer on the plane with you here’." Kiefer, 42, added: "I couldn’t figure it out. If you’ve seen 24 you’d know anyone within three feet of me dies."
