I wanted to kickstart the conversation on something that struck me as I was reading Josh Charles' interview on the LA Times blog. In that last answer, he mentions something about Kalinda that made me go 'uh?'.

neither Will nor Diane is married or has families, you don’t know if Kalinda has a family or had a family

What do you think of that? It's a weird way to put it, isn't it?
Wondering if they have been talking about Kalinda's background behind closed doors. What does he mean when he says we don't know if she had a family?

Very interesting point. Maybe the writers are aiming to give Kalinda no family in the future we will see. Kalinda is a mystery but she cann't stay a mystery forever, right?

She mentioned her parents immigrated to the US from India but we don't know anything after that.
She also doesn't speak Hindi, which could simply mean her parents wanted her to be as integrated as possible and refused to teach her OR that she didn't grow up with them.

Could she be an orphan?

I don't know if her parents are dead as Josh suggested but I don't see her having a relationship with them if they are alive. She gives off the vibe of someone who had to take care of herself very early.
Why? Could be a hundred reasons. All interesting

Yea she definitely seems like someone who has been taking care of herself for a long time.

I agree! But I hope that her parents are still alive, but that she maybe grew up on the streets because they were very busy people?

Definitely. She did mention something about vandalism in one of the earlier episodes so she could have a loaded past.

Maybe they are. She could have ran away or something. Lived by herself in her late teens...

Still it's a long way from troubled teen to kickass investigator. I wonder how she ended up in that line of work. It's not exactly a career you'd pick from the Yellow Pages.

Ah so many questions we'll never get answers to!
