Just bringing this back from Laila's post in the old thread in case someone missed it.

The part was written as East Indian; it was written specifically as somebody from that culture. We were down the line with another actress, who I was a big fan of and championing. Her manager called and said, "Looks like she's gonna take an ABC show." Then there was another actress we saw and liked quite a bit and we had her on callback, and John walked into my office and said, "Do you know Archie Panjabi? She did a movie with Ridley Scott," who is an executive producer on "The Good Wife." I had just seen her in "A Mighty Heart" with Angelina Jolie and was a big fan of her work in the movie. I said, "What a terrific idea," never thinking that we would find her. To John's credit, he ran with it and found her in London and had her put herself on tape. The tape wasn't great; we had her re-tape, but in the meantime we had this extraordinary demo reel of her work, and we started floating that to the producers to get them excited. When we looked at the pilot, we said, "Wow, okay. No wonder people are calling her a breakout star."

It's true in a way but that doesn't mean the writers would stick with it. I don't really see it but maybe some questionable activities, why not. She mentioned some vandalism so maybe it went further.

Possible. Vandalism sometimes can be related to gang activities.

I've looked around but couldn't find one single Indian actress on an ABC show, even short-lived for 2008 and 2009 so that means it wasn't even picked up!

Maybe we should just check the obituaries around the Emmys
I mean really... turning down Kalinda?! She didn't deserve the part!

Maybe, on paper, the part was not looking that good. We know that there are a loy of thinks that can be changed until the Pilot. Sometimes it'is just luck or premonition (Tom Selleck refused the role of Indiana Jones... thanks God )

Maybe. I think Archie really made the part Emmy worthy. With another actress, she could have stayed the sexually forward bold investigator she was in the pilot but not grow up to be the character that she did with Archie.

I think we should check those obits, though
