Continuing the last thread...
I really enjoyed first episode. It was one of the best for me. I also predicted like they would go this way ever since 3rd season finale. By they way if you want some sort of quick resolution you won't see it till late episodes... I hope it's not a spoiler.Piper is really annoying during first few episodes and trust me she is going to pay for it. I want to watch Wentworth but promo materials looks so cheap and it feels like they only created it because of OITNB success.
I like Lolly character so much, she is like she is doing job everything think crazy eyes is doing. But I never found Uzo character really interesting, while I enjoy Lolly. Do you like Judy King?
I hope they won't bring Tony... It was awful. And I read quit a few reviews agreeing with me. I understood that she couldn't have full time beard or something but it looks like they put some facial hair on her and that's it. Tony wasn't a new character, just Sarah with a bad makeup. Idk why some people may enjoy it.

Well, I'd really like her dead so I guess I'll live with being unsatisfied but don't worry, it's pretty obvious where they are going so you're not spoiling anything.

Well, the first season was shot before OITNB was released or even shot so nope. Also, they draw on a very popular 70ies Aussie show called Prisoner (man, that was cheap ) and I'm pretty sure that's also where a lot of OITNB comes from, since it can't be from the book.

I love her! Lori Petty is brilliant. I'm really glad she's in it.

I liked Crazy Eyes in s2 and s3 but this season, nothing interesting.

So far, I don't know. I think it's interesting they are drawing on the Martha Stewart character (she's mentioned in the book but she actually ended up in a white collar jail so she wasn't in jail with the real Piper) but I'm not sure where they are going with it so I'll wait and see.

Well, I guess we're not really the best to judge.

Most F2M trans don't have much facial hair, especially if they transitioned recently, which seems to be the case with Tony.

Well, first, I guess a lot of trans people feel misrepresented and I don't blame them for that. Most trans characters, and there are very few, are M2F because it's "easier" to fake. But mostly I think it's about it goes straight to the core theme of the show, about biology not being your whole identity.

Well, that's interesting. I thought it was created because of OITNB. Maybe I'll give it a try.
I kinda think they were going with Paula Deen not Martha Stewart... Especially after that video leaked.
I understand that most don't have much facial hair but.. Well, Tony had that typical "bad boy swag" aura, and why he has this long hair? Didn't bond well with how they want to show him, Imo.

Didn't I tell you that you wouldn't regret trying it?
Yes, you did. We saw the last three episodes yesterday night. The ending was absolute perfection. Well, okay, there are always little things that I can whine about, but the ending made sense. When Jos and I started the season we already had some thoughts about how the show would end. It was better than we had hoped, though we did guess some things. I think you will like it, especially the series finale.
This is one show we rewatch for years to come. Tell me when you saw it, so I can talk more about it in detail ^^

A lot of people do because Netflix only began having it on way after it started.
They definitely added it to their catalog because of OITNB's success but the show begun before.
I don't know if it was a good move because most people who saw Wentworth now think OITNB is not as good

They used the Southern thing that they definitely got from Paula Deen but Martha Stewart spent time in a federal jail for fraud when Piper was in jail, the real Piper I mean, and there was this big thing about whether she was going to end up in jail where Piper was.

Quote:

I agree on the hair. Didn't look very good. Most trans people I know try to adopt physical characteristics of their true gender from early on. It doesn't make much sense that he has long hair.
Tatiana even stopped shaving her legs to look more authentic but then she was nominated to some awards and had to glamourize for the red carpet

Endings are hard. Most shows **** it up (I'm looking at you Lost! ) so if you're globally satisfied, it's a good sign

I'm getting the boxset as soon as it's available here. I don't have a lot of shows I can rewatch again and again because I have a pretty good memory and I get bored. But this one is going into my top 5 for sure.

We are watching this weekend so I'll let you know

Have you yourself watched it??

Oh, didn't know about it! I knew it's based on the book but not about such detairs.
I'm surprised that Judy doesn't look like Martha
Looks like real life Piper and Larry are still married, what if they reconnect them in show

I only have the finale of OITNB to watch and I'm done!

I liked the first couple of episodes this season and then I was bored until the last three episodes.
It's like they didn't know what to do with the characters so they just brought in a tons of new uninteresting ones and kept the show's regulars for the big storyline to bookend the show.

I did like Judy although there was too much of her, imo. But then that was also like that with Lorraine Toussaint back in s2 (although that was more connected to the other characters)

My biggest gripe this season: it's a show about women. That's what's interesting. And they drowned it in cliché male characters. WTF with all these guards??? Between them and Caputo, it's like 1/3 of the season!

They are so boring as villains go, they almost make me miss the time when it was just Pornstache and Daya's baby daddy.

The only guard story I liked (and well, that was the only real story) was Healy's connection with Lolly. That was also the only interesting flashback, maybe with the one that finally told us how Susan ended up in jail.

It won't happen. They made sure the fictional Larry was such a jerk, there was no way back.

That poor guy got screwed in the show, let me tell you. He must be a saint. Not only did he stick with Piper when she was in jail, supported her, drove hours to come see her etc but then he took the character assassination in the show like a champ.
They turned him into a selfish ******* just to give Piper an excuse to **** Alex which of course she never did in the book because they weren't jailed in the same place, except for a few months and met only a couple of times then.

I didn't even mind Lost' ending, but this one was even better. Much better. Can't wait to find out what you thought about it.

We already have the first 3 seasons on blu-ray, but I might wait to purchase S4 and S5 untill there's a complete series box-set (which I will buy anyway, so might save myself a few bucks). I hope there will be a complete box-set.

I didn't even notice but it's true most of male characters are very cliche. The way they hate inmates/trying to have sex with them.
Bayley was the only good one and then... Though, It wasn't his fault.

I always dislike her, like she was some sort of Disney villain. She is kinda the reason show became toooooooooo big. Well, writers were but you get me.
Judy was... good. And I like her RS with that bearded guy.

Well he was kinda ass from the very begininng, never thought about him and Piper as some sort of end game.

Right? I'm sure people don't become CO by choice so there is some bitterness involved but every damn one of them? Come on.
They really hit rock bottom with the dude making someone eat a mouse

I know what you mean. I love the actress and the character could have been interesting if she hadn't been so... broad. They could have worked more on the relationship with Susan and the conflict with Red, without making it so theatrical

She was fun. Maybe in too many scenes but since it was obvious they didn't know what to do with their 20 regular characters, at least she was interesting.

Agreed. From the very start, it was like her going to jail was going to inconvenience him or something. When it was rather the opposite with real life Larry.

Lost went dowhill after 2.5 seasons, from mystical show it became a supernatural one with time jumps, resurrections and all that jazz.
Yes, they did. Also one ot the things I dislike about OITNB is how those things like "eating mouse" and Piper's "tatoo" turned out. They didn't show aftermath which reduced impact a lot. Also, have you noticed how those who tattooed her completely forgot about her after it?
Yes, Larry was very weak, but I hope he'll be back for something. Maybe Piper funeral.

Yep. They lost me at the time jumps too. And it was all ok because they were dead, see?

I agree. There's a lot of things they just throw in there for shock value but they never explore them. You can tell they're thinking "twitter moment!" but they don't have anywhere to go with it.

I know, right? They just moved on to other things. They didn't even take on the White Power bitches
Guess they just needed an excuse to lift the branding thing straight out of Wentworth. (it's not branding in Wentworth but I guess they thought it would be too awkward having them suddenly get a steam press since we never seen them do that )

They LOST me with 4th season. It was super boring and it was clear they didn't plan it all before and it was BAAAAD. Some shows just get boring and it's okay after lots of years but it got both boring and bad.
True about "twitter moment". They didn't even mention it all until one of the last episodes when they said something like "you want to get revenge for Piper" or something.
By the way finally watched last 3 episodes (watched 10 before + saw few scenes from last 3 here and there) and... Idk what to say. This show reminds me of Desperate Houseviwes. Amazing 1st season, good 2nd but it lost original charm, bad 3rd and good 4th which is the 2nd best in series. But it's clear that drama will only get bigger and bigger while the original charm was that show was actually really down to earth. Cast strenth is actually at it's peak now, I love how they all united at the end even if it was kinda basic. I love how latinos (I hope I'm not mistaken them with other group lol) decided to help girl who was beaten by CE. I love how everyone decided to help Red. I absolutely LOVE that
Spoiler:
SUCH A MESS, WHEEEEEW! 11th episode was the best one in whole series, but final 2 were not perfect. I knew about death and it looked kinda cheap and forced. Also it's your typical death of secondary character which won't have any sort of big impact. Very sad that they made Bayley aka the only good person in prison did it, hope he'll overcome this.

I'll take your word for it, I never watched DH. Well, I tried but it wasn't my thing.
I did hear a lot of people say the same about it though;

I guess it's a pitfall of a lot of shows that skirt the edge between comedy and drama. It looks easy but it's really not. And the tendency, especially once award nominations for the first season are in, is to make more of the drama, because it's where the awards are. And they forget about the light-heartedness that made it different.

And the drama always look so big and broad, because it contrasts so much with the few remaining light hearted moments.

I liked it too. I wished it hadn't been so late though. I think there would have been more opportunities to do that before. They always keep everything for the last episodes!

And they really gave her nothing this season. She never really got much to do but this season it was just a few boring scenes with her prison girlfriend. Meh.

I know, right? I was actually mad and I don't even care about him so much

So what are you watching now? Any summer show?
