Season 2 will start next week in France (I know we are late).
But I just wanted to share: TGW has really good critics in French TV magazine even, especially, in one which is considered as a really selective one. TGW is the best show on network TV. For those who speak French (general review to introduce season 2): La critique TV de télérama du 29/10/2011 2T (that's their ratings, which is very good) Si Alicia Florrick souhaitait du repos après son année mouvementée, c'est raté. TGW S2 aired in Finland this year and with only a few episodes left... They decided to put it on a break to make way for.... ! Desperate Housewives. I don't think TGW has being a big hit here. It has 200k viewers weekly which makes it moderately successful for a foreign tv-show. It's also in top ten of the network's most watched shows, but Nelonen (=channel four) is only the 4th biggest network in Finland. I think TGW has potential for much more if the press paid even a tad more attention to it and it were on a different channel. I'm still happy that they even air the show here. Otherwise I'd have never even heard of it. It's good to have great tv-show in your life, right? Edit: To sort of get back to Desperate Housewives, here it's translated "Perfect Women" (Täydelliset Naiset) which caused a lot of fuzz around the show because it isn't actually called "Perfect Women" at all. A famous band in Finland then made a record called "Perfect Men" and even the cover of the album is styled in a smiliar manner to the show's poster. TGW is called only "Good Wife" here and it might be again that the name of the show just doesn't do it... Justice. If they just tranlated it to Finnish, it might have caused the same impact like "what is this show, what an odd name it has" as I suppose it does in USA. I want TGW to be perfect, and I have very high expectations. They raised the bar, but have never truly peaked yet, far from it, but...
I kind of get the sense that they are too comfortable with the Emmy's and handshakes now. A bit of sighting problem from the trees to the forest perhaps too? The Kings have always said TGW is about the characters, and stories, not the ego of the actors, yet... I think it's more Actor/career driven in season 3. I don't lilke seeing new part-timer cast members gloating on Twitter about their roles before it airs etc... I guess the freshness and sponteneity is tough to keep consistent, but I miss being blown away from TGW. The characters are very career/name oriented now, and I dont' get the feeling like I'm suppose to that these are characters who happen to live in Chicago and battle or romance the TGW main cast. I'm still watching with an open mind, but it's been a let down every other week. No offense to the fans of the actors who are getting plenty of face time on TGW in season 3, but the show doesn't seem to be a ensemble anymore. |
