Josh on Julianna, Alicia, Will and AW.

Will and Alicia [played by Juliana Margulies] are very close and went to Georgetown Law School together, and there is a real history there and that is a big part of obviously why she is coming to this firm. Will is an incredibly successful lawyer in Chicago; I think he is really good at what he does. I think he really enjoys living his life. He is methodical, he is loyal, he strikes me as someone who takes what he does very seriously but also tries to have a good time. He likes the Cubs, not the White Sox (laughs). He's a huge Bears fan, and I think he has a secret shrine to Michael Jordon in his living room but no one knows about it (laughs). When you work on a character, they always have to have secrets, you know?

There’s a sense of “I love these two people together, and there’s so many reasons why right now they shouldn’t be together as she works out her relationship with her husband, and she has two kids, and Will’s her boss.” And yet there is this sort of pull and connection between them that has some sort of tragic components to it. I’m really just happy that people are responding to that because we’re enjoying playing it.

It’s an all star cast – had you worked with the supporting actors (Noth, Baranski etc) before?
Josh Charles, I have known forever, and I actually had suggested him for the role.

I was fascinated by the episode where Alicia shares an intense kiss with her superior at the law firm, who happens to be her old law-school boyfriend. She then flees and goes home and initiates sex with her husband. What did you think about that scene?
Alicia's husband has cheated on her, she hasn't been touched in nine months, and she essentially uses her husband as a tool to satisfy herself. It was a bold choice for the writers and the show to include that sex scene in an aggressive and dominant way not often seen on network TV. And it was fun to play it that way.

Q: If you had to choose between Will and Peter, who would you choose?
JM: You know, I don’t know. Honestly, that’s a great question but it’s hard because you have to really look at it. Peter is the father of her children and when you see him with them, you can understand why she would choose him. On the other hand, Will is unbelievably dashing and handsome and in love with her as she is with him I think. So what do you sacrifice? I don’t know.

A: Yes, I’m his new… Junior Associate.

Edelstein's character will create triangular tension; Will wants Alicia, but in her absence, will take Edelstein because Will wants sex and ease of feeling unencumbered. Alicia can't provide that for him. She will be jealous of Edelstein because she wants Will for herself. She will be angry and hurt that he won't be exclusive with her, but she can't blame him for not wanting the whole family package and commitment that brings. Alicia will have issues with Edelstein because of this female tension.

I saw this in the old thread and didn't get a chance to comment there so I'll share my thoughts. Thanks for the post, I love reading other people's opinions. I'm really hoping that Edelstein's character doesn't create anymore triangles between them. I think that's the worst thing the writers could possibly do with her character, IMO, especially after the review the triangle business got this last season. I don't think Will is going to be with anyone else just to because he wants sex, anymore. I think now that he's been with Alicia it's really going to be hard for him not to and it would just be a douche baggy move [since we know A/W wont be able to be exclusive for awhile if they do decide to start a relationship] for him to start a new relationship with someone else after all that's happened between them, IMO. I don't really think Alicia is going to be angry and hurt that Will won't be exclusive with her because I don't think she wants to be exclusive yet. She would probably want to wait until her divorce was final before having another relationship with someone. I definitely think there could be female tension between Edelstein's character and Alicia but that's only if Will and Edelstein have something going on between them. And I think we should probably wait and see how much her character has to do with Will's.

#52 is about Alicia taking over and saying "I've got this" and she's letting him know she wants this exceptional moment to happen as much as he does even though she wasn't the one to initiate it. And it's not the universe aligned against them, they've just got to get things right. When she manages to open the door, you get the feeling that it's not about 'bad timing', that as long as they're on the same page with each other, they can make their own good timing.

I know this was days and days ago, but I just had to say I love your comments on the 'key' scene, Chris, and I agree. It was the moment when they took control of an opportunity to be together and didn't let anything get in their way, and as you say, as long as they are communicating with each other and are on the same page, fate/bad timing doesn't have a chance. I love this scene and I'm glad it made it all the way to #3. I also love Will pleading to God to give them that little bit of time...it was sooo sweet and Alicia loved seeing how much he wanted that time with her. Add that to the money he spent on the room and she should have no doubts about how he feels about her. Her smile when she says it's ok is so lovely and happy!

Sabrina, I loved your video 'If not now, when?' I think the lack of resolution made it look kinda dreamlike. You did a great job!

For me it's not a battle between feelings and passion. Although I LOVE scene 1 (sooooooooooooo happy it got into the top 3!!!) as I see it in scene 51 feelings and passion come together. It's not only about passion, first and foremost it's about their feelings for eachother, those feelings lead to the passion. Nene, welcome back! I missed you!

Just wondering if anyone else has similar thoughts on the subject of post-Presidential suite Alicia and Will. This is my current theory: Both Will and Alicia will want more. Alicia won't be able to satisfy all the demands of work, Will, and family on her time; as her obnoxious kids rebel more with age and their new situation, Will necessarily will take less priority than them for Alicia. First of all, welcome goodwifefan! I love hearing different perspectives and we can get a little insular in here sometimes. I hope you will be back!

I personally don't see Will getting involved with Edelstein at all, not after a night with Alicia. Edelstein is more likely to stir up some unpleasant memories for him. W/A are gonna have their bumps in the road, but I think they are both in a different place. Will may have to be patient while she irons out her personal life, but I think he's perfectly happy to do that and that he's ready to not only be exclusive with her but also to commit to her. He's been ready since the deleted VM. I don't think either of them are entering into this lightly and neither of them are going to let little things get in their way anymore. Does that mean they will be a couple? I doubt it, at least not for a while, but I think they both know what they want, it's a matter of what they have to do and go through to get it. They have a long journey ahead of them and it's not all going to be pleasant but I can't see Will jumping into bed with Edelstein even if Alicia puts on the brakes again, which from that little snippet in the promo doesn't look like she is. I do agree that Alicia might be a little jealous of Edelstein, and that would make for some interesting scenes, but I don't think she has anything to worry about.

It's always good to have another opinon. I do think Celeste will create some tension, and some misunderstanding because Alicia/Will won't get a chance to talk because Alicia will be so busy with work/home/kids and so Alicia will assume the worse about Will/Celeste. And Will won't understand why Alicia is tense around him.

This is a very distinct possibility...

I'm worrying about Eli - he knows too much, he knows what the second vm says, he knows Peter and Alicia have seperated, he knows that the Democratic Party has designs on Peter running for higher office but need Alicia by his side because together they are "the Kennedys," Eli will also be Alicia's "boss" as she said, and he will undoubtingly see the chemistry between Will and Alicia when he's in the office with them everyday.

I agree, Eli scares me more than Peter. As you say, he knows way too much...

On top of that it would be completely OOC for Will to cheat on Alicia (or any woman, yes he has been a womanizer but as far as we know he never cheated on one of them) and use Celeste this way. He would just NEVER do that. The guy has been in love with Alicia since their collegetime, (like Emma wrote) do you really believe that he would risk his relationship with her now he finally got her? I don't think so! We are not even sure Celeste has a romantic past with Will and even if she has, it will be and stay in the past. The strong friendship Celeste and Will apparently share will probably create some tension between Will and Alicia, especially if they keep up the lack of communication they had before but I'm sure that tension will be shortlived and Alicia will find out sooner rather than later that she has nothing to worry about (if she doesn't already know that).

He would never risk a step back like that. I also agree with what you said about Alicia. I think she's gonna try and protect Will/ the firm from Peter by trying to distance herself from Will. Maybe this is when she contemplates leaving the firm. Of course I expect Will to have none of that and inform her he can take care of himself.

Looking forward to Letterman tonight and the special on Sunday. Also can't wait to rewatch Foreign Affairs right after the special. I haven't seen it since it aired because I accidentally deleted it on my DVR (Bad Nene). It's been so long it'll be like watching it for the first time!
