oh wow. I have to think about those.

Now the problem is this: do I speculate in canon or just make it up as I go along like the writers?

Let's go by what we know to be true, please. (meaning her actions and reactions, not the twisty reveal/non-reveals)

It's that I feel a bit that way and also - as Mirani said - I hate the Kings think we are a bunch of idiots.

It's kinda true but I guess we have to push through by holding on to what we know of the characters and hope for the best.
So, in this thread, it's characters the way we know them

I'd like to give it a shot, unless Lily wants to go first?

Oh please do, Marie. Lily will take a shot at it when she gets around to it. I'd love to read what you come up with

Well, here's my view on the mysteries behind Kalinda! I could be completely off.

1. Where was she born/where did she grow up? (small town, big town, country, suburbs...)

She grew up in the city. She has the street smarts that display it.

2. Rich kid? Middle Class kid? Poor kid?

Middle class. And you'll see why I say this soon.

3. What was her family life like?

It was ok. I think her parents loved her, but were conservative. They probably had an arranged marriage. I don't think they loved each other. I see them as people who stayed with each other probably because of religious beliefs. But I don't think they were unhappy being together either, they were probably content. You would be surprised at how common this is. I think Kalinda was probably more westernised than they were and this may have caused friction between her and her parents.

4. What her parents/siblings call her?

Ok, I don't know why, but for some reason, whenever I picture Kalinda as a child, I always imagine people calling her 'Kiki', and her absolutely hating it. Kids at school might have called her 'K'.

5. What were her parents doing?

Her mother was a housewife who looked after the kids and the house, and I see her father as a business man. Both parents were educated. Considering that Kalinda doesn't know Hindi, I'm guessing that they spoke English at home. But they were conservative.

6. Does she get along with her parents now?

No. They may even be dead. And this may sound cold, but I don't think she really mourns their loss.

7. Any siblings? Older? Younger?

Brothers. One older, two younger. No sisters.

8. Does she get along with her siblings now?

No. I think, if something happened, her brothers probably sided with her parents. She doesn't trust easily. Far far from it. And I think her brothers were the first to break it. She loved them once and when they refused to see her side of things, she probably viewed it as a betrayal.

9. Did she have a happy childhood?

Relatively. I think she enjoyed her childhood as a kid. But as she got older, things got difficult. There was a generation and belief gap that didn't mesh together in that household.

10. Who was the most important person in her life as a kid?

Her big brother. He probably taught her half her mad skills

11. What kind of kid was she?

Sarcastic and blunt. She spoke her mind at family gatherings, when her parents prefered that she keep quiet, because it's not ok for girls or children to speak up like that She was a tomboy as a kid. Had more guys for friends than girls. She loved getting into trouble, but had the smarts to not get caught.

12. What did she want to do when she grew up?

An investagator, just like she is now. Her parents must have been alarmed at that one. But can you imagine little Kalinda, deciding that what she was being told didn't make sense, so she goes off to find her own answers

13. Her fondest childhood memory?

Hmmm........racing her bike to school with the neighbourhood boys and her brothers and coming first

14. What did she hate most as a kid?

People, especially relatives, telling her what she should and should not be doing.

15. What was her high school life like?

She was popular enough with the boys, and thought the girls were stupid. She was competitive and stubborn. She loved gym, and hated history. Probably fell asleep in class during the reading of Romeo and Juliet. She was terrible at home economics but good at woodwork.

16. Did she ever get in trouble in school? What for?

Here's the thing, I don't think she got into any trouble at school. At least nothing that would cause her parents to be involved. Detention trouble though, yes.
