Alicia Florrick|Julianna Margulies Appreciation Thread #10 - If she's sexy when she's happy, she must be really happy!

Welcome to the 10th
Alicia Florrick / Julianna Margulies

Appreciation Thread

Reasons why we love Julianna/Alicia:

Because she is the good wife
Because ‘this is a challenge’ (Julianna Margulies)
Because she is trying to move on
Because she would do everything for her family
Because she was top of her class
Because everyone deserves a second chance
Because she the firm's secret weapon

Quotes from Julianna and about Julianna/Alicia Florrick

"Julianna Margulies is the good Wife! She is just stunning in this role"
Robert King

"I loved how complicated she is. We're going to be able to peel her like an onion for years to come.
From that scene where you see her standing there... in my head I kept thinking, "Well, why are you standing there?"
And I feel like these women really don't get their due. They're supposed to have the children, support the husband. These are smart women.
Silda Spitzer right now is heading a hedge fund in New York City. She's never been better.
Elizabeth Edwards just wrote a book. Look at Hilary Clinton. It's not like these are silly little wallflowers that are waiting for their husband to come home.
Most of them have two degrees, at least, and they're incredibly accomplished."
Julianna on what she saw in the role of Alicia Florrick.

"“This is a woman who thought her life was going one way for many, many years and trusted that life and that world that she lived in.
And then everything crumbles. So as an actor, I felt like there are so many places to go [with her].
We’re going to be able to peel her like an onion for years to come.”
Julianna Margulies about Alicia

Thanks Laila.
And no thank you Julianna.
Dear Julianna Margulies,
Please stop making Alicia into such a strong, sympathetic woman struggling with what is right or wrong and what is real or unreal. Please stop knocking it out of the park every single episode. I don't like almost tearing up over a TV show every other week. I have life you know, I have places to be where the explanation 'My eyes are red and my voice is hoarse and my hands are shaking because of a particularly moving episode of TGW' don't hold much water.

Shama.

PS - I don't know how to love you enough.

Shama's letter...

Thanks Shama.

Would The Good Wife still have been made, and if so, would it be as good without Margulies?
Wow I can't think of any other actress to play Alicia. That would be weird.

Now that she's embodied the role it is impossible for us to imagine someone else in the role but I don't the show would not have been made at all if she was not available. They would have cast someone else who would have done an admirable job, and we would never have known what we were missing out on.

And we wouldn't have Josh Charles because Julianna suggested him for the role so...

ITA Shama. I do think the show would be much different though without her, from a writing perspective. The Kings have mentioned how much dialogue they remove because of how expressive JM is. The dialogue just isn't needed. With someone else as Alicia, I'm guessing Alicia wouldn't be as reserved and things like Alicia's tendency to ramble when nervous/upset would be much more prominent. All speculation though because again, ITA Shama. We will never know.

I'd forgotten that! The whole cast would be different not to mention all the guest stars JM calls for them.

I think that comes across in the Pilot script as well. There was a lot more dialogue. And JM seems to have set the tone for all the other actors as well. The show is more about the silences and the reactions for everyone now.
And she even seems to be very vocal and influential when it comes to Alicia. You know about the change of Alicia's motivations for sleeping with Peter in Heart, right?

Yes. I like the way she played it so much. ITA Alicia seems pretty different in the pilot- the ways she dresses, the amount of dialogue, even the way she reacts to certain things. JM seems to be pretty influential in the whole show- between suggesting cast at the beginning and putting the wig and filmimg in NY into her contract to calling to recruit guests now, changing the way Alicia's scenes are played and in one of the bts videos, she's suggesting that they enter a room im a different order. I think the whole show would be very different without her.

Is there someone who hasn't? But I agree, JM's probably been a huge influence on how Alicia evolves. But then, she's always been quite vocal. Back in the second season of ER, when there didn't seem to be anything to her chatacter's story, she told the producers that she was going to walk out if they didn't give her a substantial story to work with. In the third season, she was the one that convinced the writers not let Carol go to med school, to keep her as a nurse
