#103 - "Friendly Fire" (Original Airdate: 09/30/02)
Andy's (Treat Williams) neighbor and friend Nina (Stephanie Niznik) is ostracized by the townspeople when they discover she is a surrogate mother for a woman in her mid-50s. Andy's clumsy attempt to come to Nina's defense backfires, but she turns to him and Ephram (Gregory Smith) for help when the baby makes an unexpectedly early arrival. Meanwhile, Ephram is dealt an emotional blow when Amy (Emily VanCamp) disinvites him to a party in order to gain the approval of her friends; and Delia (Vivien Cardone) attempts to befriend the school bully, Magilla (guest star Bret Loehr).

#104 - "The Kissing Bridge" (Original Airdate: 10/07/02)
Dr. Brown (Treat Williams) and Dr. Abbott (Tom Amandes) must put their striking differences aside to educate the town of Everwood after several of their teenaged patients are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease. To make sensitive matters worse, Dr. Abbott has reason to suspect that his son, Bright (Chris Pratt), may have been intimate with one of the patients. Meanwhile, Ephram (Gregory Smith) pushes his romantic feelings aside to comfort Amy (Emily VanCamp) who is distraught over not being able to go to the Fall Dance with her boyfriend who remains in a coma.

Yay! New episodes to discuss! Okay, here are my thoughts:

Friendly Fire- Hm.. where to begin... I wanted to slap Amy's friends for the way they acted and treated Ephram. Are the blind?! If a dude like that went to my school... LOL! I thought the fight they had while Ephram was playing piano for Amy's dance group was pretty good. It was great how Ephram could still fight with Amy while playing so beautifully on the piano I loved the advice Edna gave to Amy in the diner; abuot how Ephram's feelings were prolly hurt. I thought it was very weird that the mother of Nina's baby was older, but by the end of the episode, I was okay with it, because as Andy pointed out, Nina wouldn't do this for just anyone. To tell you the truth, I totally forgot Nina was pregnant for a while in s1, i loved how Andy came to her defense in the diner when the town was shooting her down. Go Andy! LAst but not least, I can't even explain how funny it was when Andy dragged Ephram with him, when Nina's 3water broke. Then when he had to help Andy deliver the baby in that doughnut shop. "I need another pot" "How big?" "Big enough for me to barf in." I loved his face, he was just so... HAHA I don't even know the word. Then afterwards, when Amy commented on it, he said sthing like, "I just supplied a shoelace."

The Kissing Bridge- One thing that sticks out in my mind from this episode was the scene when Andy says, "You know what's funny? I dont know if you've ever had sex" and Ephram says, "And you never will." To tell you the truth, for some reason, I thought that he wasn't a virgin when the show started. Weird, i know, lol! I also loved how Andy and Harold taught the sex ed classes. So great; how Ephram and Bright were *not* okay with that, lol! Yes, Edna's blowing up the bridge and that whole scene with her and Harold stuck out as well. It was great seeing another side of this wonderful character. Overall, i thought this was a great episide. Both these episodes are

This was a classic ... Andy went to far ... episode. It was like ... Andy, stop talking NOW!

The Ephram/Amy fight while he was playing the piano was hilarious!

I liked the scene where Edna blew up the bridge. Very powerful. And I'm glad they added it to the S3 credits.

Yeah, the blowing up of the bridge was a powerful moment. Mother and son.

I agree. I loved the blowing up of the bridge. It was just a perfect ending to the episode. I loved the significance it had and that it was mother and son.

Okay, the fight in "Friendly Fire" between Ephram and Amy was great. It was so heated and very real.

Friendly Fire: This episode is one of my favorites from season one. Ephram had every right to be mad at Amy, but he should have known her friends weren't going to want him there. Even though he had a right to be angry, it still was upsetting to see them fight. But they made up at the end, and Amy didn't end up going to her friend's party. I felt sorry for Nina and Sara because the town kept flip/ flopping on their opinions of Nina being pregnant and giving the baby away. I think Nina is brave for having the baby, and I'm proud of the way Andy and Ephram handled the birth. And the fight the Doctors ended up having in the end was priceless.

The Kissing Bridge: Ephram's and Andy's "talks" were good, especially the last one. The Doctors coming to give lectures on protection was classic, and Dr. Abbott brought posters! Dr. Brown was more prepared. It was sad to see the Kissing Bridge blow up, especially since Edna had so many memories there. But the fact that she blew it up, no questions asked, showed that she was finally able to grieve, then move on. I liked that Ephram went with Amy to see Colin in Denver. It broke my heart watching Amy talk to Colin, and watching Ephram sit outside. His loyality is strong for Amy, and him trying to be a good friend shows what a good guy he is. Exceptional episodes, both of them.

I will certainly be back with my comments on these episodes once I unpack and do a few things. I will say right now that Friendly Fire is one of my favorite episodes. The fight between E/A was outstanding. I find it amazing how even this early on in their relationship, they were already displaying passion and emotion towards each other. I loved every minute of it. Anyway, be back soon with more comments.

Awww, thanks so much, jjlover. I really appreciate it.

Friendly Fire:

One of my favorite episodes of season 1. As I previously stated, you can tell how even this early on, E/A have deep emotion and feelings towards each other in such a dominant and beautiful way. Their flirty banter, the flirty looks they exchanged whenever Ephram walked into her dance class. Adorable. Yeah, Amy's friends were snobbish twits for being so rude and cruel, but I loved how from the very moment Amy's friends pulled that trick on Ephram, Amy was bothered and upset about it. I love how she didn't go to the party and instead, talked with Edna about it. I loved how she realized that Ephram already meant a great deal to her and she already cares for him.. Like she told him, he was this guy in her life that she suddenly cares about. I think it actually scared her that she cared so much about Ephram this fast and suddenly. It amazes me how this early on, she realizes that Ephram means a great deal to her. Their blow out fight in the dance class was wicked funny. Ephram was all out ticked off and Amy was so upset and hurt over what he was saying to her. The passion, sparks and emotion that was flying around between them during that fight was priceless. I loved every minute of it.

I think it was hilarious how Harold and Andy were bantering up a storm regarding Nina's care and I loved how Ephram and Andy were the ones that delivered the baby. So cute. You can tell how uncomfortable, even way back then, Andy was with seeing Nina without clothes being fully on as he is examining her as her physician. The tension was there way back then, just as it was with E/A.

Andy, in the middle of the water, rowing that dumpy boat and screaming out to Julia was great stuff. I loved that scene so much.

The Kissing Bridge:

Edna stole the show in this episode for me. I loved how she was able to say her goodbye to Hal Sr. in her own "Edna-like" way, even if it meant blowing up the bridge.

I recently mentioned on the E/A thread how powerful and incredible I felt that scene between E/A was whenever Ephram was hurt by Bright making him think Amy invited him to the dance.. And that hall scene between E/A was freaking powerful stuff. The music that was played was perfection and the slow-motion scene was pure beauty as Ephram walks right by Amy with his head down and looks so sad, and Amy gazes at him and desperately tries to make eye contact with him by turning to look at him in a direct way but no dice. She continues to turn around and watches him walking away. That scene always moves me. To see their dynamic and the big time emotion, passion and feeling that they both have for each other is incredible stuff. Especially on Amy's part. It breaks her heart to see Ephram so sad and depressed and she wants to desperately reach out to him because she is feeling things for him that I don't even think she fully understands at this point, but she is constantly trying to keep this in check by battling those feelings internally.. due to the Colin situation.

The infamous Abbott dinner scene was freaking hilarious. Amy blurting out to Harold about that girl having VD as Harold starts choking and continues to choke even further whenever Amy also blurts to Bright that he dated that same girl! Ahh, what a priceless Abbott dinner scene.

E/A going off to Denver together was sweet. Their diner convo was perfect and how they missed the bus was even more perfect. They were so wrapped up in deep conversaton that they do not notice the time. Very cute.

I also thought it was very significant how Harold greeted Amy with an embrace but you could see the coldness between Andy/Ephram, as they just sort of stood there. Very compelling difference.

Two, picture-perfect episodes.

That scene was a perfect example of the brilliancy behind Berlanti integrating comedy with drama. That scene could make me cry as I felt how much Andy was missing Julia, but die of laughter at same time, with how he is shouting to her and just the general comedic tone that goes on. Outstanding stuff.
