Summer Break Episode Discussion: 121 Episode 20/122 Fear Itself

Episode Summaries/Pictures

Quote:

#121 - "Episode 20" (Original Airdate: 05/05/03)
In one of the most heartfelt and provocative episodes of this critically acclaimed drama, Dr. Andy Brown (Treat Williams) confronts important moral and professional issues when a pregnant 18 year old (guest star Kate Mara) and her father (guest star Kevin Tighe) come to him for guidance. Meanwhile, Ephram (Gregory Smith) is humiliated in front of the entire school when his date for the Spring Formal ditches him at the dance to make out with her boyfriend; and Amy (Emily VanCamp) and Colin (Mike Erwin) have a huge fight when she chooses to console Ephram against Colin's wishes.

#122 - "Fear Itself" (Original Airdate: 05/12/03)
Resentful at being forced to accompany Andy (Treat Williams) and Irv (John Beasley) to a remote lake cabin, Ephram (Gregory Smith) takes a small boat out alone and his inexperience leads to a serious accident and a night of terror for Andy. Meanwhile, Colin (Mike Erwin) and his parents (guest stars Nancy Everhard and Michael Flynn) must decide whether to allow Dr. Brown to perform a second dangerous surgery; and Nina (guest star Stephanie Niznik) confronts her husband Carl (guest star Dylan Walsh) after she accidentally discovers he is having an affair.

Episode 20 was definitely one of the best episodes. I loved that they showed both sides of the story even though it was with a liberal bent.

Fear Itself was also good. I was so worried about Ephram. And felt heartbroken for Nina when she found out about the other man.

These two episodes were big tearjerkers.

Both of these episodes were certainly emotional.

Episode 20 was an incredible episode. Leave it up to this show to tackle tough topics and handle it appropriately. I loved how they brilliantly showed both sides. Harold, in Church, praying at the end was one of the most powerful moments in Everwood history, imo. Great stuff.

Fear Itself was another good one. My heart broke for Nina. She didn't deserve that kind of pain. It was tough to watch. Ephram/Andy, and their continuous bickering was ever present in this episode. I love how the possibility of tragic circumstances can immediately make people sit up and understand that smaller issues are insignificant whenever life and death is concerned.. It was great to see father/son come to an understanding at the end of this episode.

121:

For some reason this episode didn't appeal to me as much as the others.

I don't love the focus on Kate, even if I like the topic.

I loved Nina yelling at Andy. He wasn't around to answer the tough questions so she had to.

Eprham/Amy dancing together was really sweet! I love that she stood up to Colin to go see if he was okay.

122:

Again, not my favorite episode....

It was interesting to see Ephram and Irv together I guess.

I felt so bad for Nina. I'm not surprised her husband was cheating, he seemed like a jerk.

All in all it seemed kind of randomly focused imo. These episodes would have fit better imo earlier in the season. They both kinda felt like filler episodes to me.

Ephram and Amy dancing in 1.21 was so beautiful. Just like their Ferris Wheel moments throughout the series, dancing is another theme in their relationship too. Greg/Emily are oozing chemistry during all their dance scenes.
